The car purchase price is the cheapest part of the equation...... when you consider that FOB, shipping, agency fees, import duty, GST & compliance can set you back up to 150% of what you paid for the car then it sheds a different light on it. Then you are up for on road costs, possibly new tyres, registration & stamp duty. And this whole process will take you two months at least, if everything runs like clockwork. Then the zed starts sucking money out of your wallet as you do the little bits & pieces (ask ANY zed owner). These are the things you don't see when you look at the dealer price in Japan.
Place in Brisbane I was looking at importing with would cost $14,000 for a $1 car. Meaning a $5,000 would be $19,000. Not worth it in my books, but shop around cause, I didn't look for long, there is bound to much better/cheaper places.
