I recently had a problem with the car o/heating and found that the water pump in my car was not working well there was a lot of rust(orange water) coming through the radiator. I changed the water pump hoping that the problem may lay there but I have since flushed the cooling system twice and the orange water is still coming(checked the radiator seems to be ok)...any suggestions as to what it may be? is the car in its last leg? what is the worst possibility?
    Thanks for your help.

    Roman:(

When you say "flushed the system twice"

do you mean using a powerflush via a radiator shop or just the garden hose ... Sometimes, you need the powerflush to remove sediment ... You probably only got the rad water clean... Pays to also do with the heater on full to flush put those pipes too.

My 2.2c- get it powerflushed if you are still getting discoloured water after two clean outs...

Rob (K-Zed), anything to add here?

I agree Mark, Roman should prolly visit a rad shop >>>

    >>> since no further Tech Days are on the horizon, and taking the amount of rusty water present into consideration.

Get the system power-flushed & pressure-tested asap. It's quite inexpensive.

Do not be surprised if leaks appear afterward as it appears your engine may have suffered poor maintenance in the past ... be vigilant.

And no, the engine's prolly fine, just the hoses/heater core etc that may be adversely affected. You should've seen MikeZ's cooling system

If you're going to trouble of powerflushing...

why not get the radiator 'rodded' (where they take off the side tanks and push rods thru the core to completely free it from any gunk/restrictions). Not that much extra and well worth the preventative maintenance while you have it all pulled down?

    Just for

starters what we do if the system is really dirty is run a chemical cleaner in the system first then power flush the system (thermostat removed for that). We would recomend a radiator service (rod out) if there is a known over heating problem. From my experiance a lot of japanese engines have a high iron content in their blocks causing the water to discolour almost over night with out proper coolants.

im gathering you work in a radiator shop?

just out of curiosity what are your thoughts with chemical cleaners? have you ever used it on a car and ended up with all sorts of broken hoses or gaskets? or is this old school chemical cleaners that people refer to when they talk about this happening?

    well Patrick

youre close yes I do own a radiator shop 20 years in the industry. Chemical cleaners do have their place, a couple of years ago I had a BMW 3 series that was from a decased estate it had been sitting for 10 years, to cut a long story short by the time it was finished you could of eaten off the water surfaces, they were that clean. I don't advocate there use adhoc but they can be benificial at times.
