Hey guys, Just put my engine together after a head rebuild, and have got it running despite a CAS related problem (thanks for those that helped with that one, turned out my CAS was 180 deg out, hard to tell which half the lug had broken off from! that would certainly stop it from running!) Now I've had it running for a while this arvo on idle, but its still not firing on cylinder 1, although there is spark and i think feul.. any ideas?

    Kalus Finally dug myself out

We've had a couple of cases of injector wires playing up on

cyl no. 1 lately. Check the ECU plug is all the way in and tightened up. Try wiggling the wire (check ECU pinout) for injector 1 near the ECU.

Have a look at the wires going into your PTU and make sure

they have not pushed out when you put it back together. How do you know you have ignition ....have you removed the plug and checked to see if it fires?

Yep, pulled the spark plug and checked that it was firing, which it was..

I also swapped coil packs with cyl. 3 that was firing correctly, still cyl 1 was dead, then I swapped plugs between cyl 1 +3, still cylinder 1 was dead...

But.. the good news is today I finally got toi the root of the prob..
PTU was connected fine, turns out the injector connections were a bit dodgy, they were badly corroded but even cleaning them didnt help.. after I cleaned them all, cyl 2 wasnt working but 1 was...
This was all due to the connectors being loose, getting a fine screwdriver under them and closing the gap in the connector on the loom solved it!!

Now I am very happy to say that my Z is back up and running, sweeter than ever.. (although it may sadly be appearing in the for sale section soon..)

As a side note, if anyone is contemplating pulling their heads off from above, it is very achievable, if you have a LOT of patience (4 elbows and 3 hands would also be an advantage..)
Thanks to those guys who have helped me with the odd spot of troubleshooting..

    Cheers.
    Dan

    Yeah I know... !!!!

It may be a matter of neccesity, I'm only 22, trying to finish of my uni degree (ie: I'm poor!) and am thinking about the future.. possibly marry my g/f next year etc... I was originally thinking of selling it when it did the head gasket, but now i just may not have a choice about it!
I'ts hurt a bit spending money on her when I knew I may have to sell, but I prefer to fix something properly.. so I'm pretty sure there'll be a Red 2+2 TT manual thats had a LOT of TLC up for some lucky guy soon..

Well all the best with your future and the woman in your life

and really cars just arent that important are they?

Im 53 and I can afford to fart about with my Z and spend a bit here and there but when I was your age I was faced with the same decisions and priorities.

    All the best Smithie
