    Hey guys,

Before I by a 300zx, I was wanting to know if there are any decent/reliable Z mechanics in the Melbourne region? I know UAS is the place to go, but it is a tad too far, but it may end up worthwhile. Where do you Victorian's go? I'm really fussy when it comes to mechanics.

    Thanks guys.

    Nissport in Braeside/Mordialloc....>>

Have Joe Imbesi working for them and he would have to be one of the best Zed mechanics in Melbourne.

They are on Boundary Rd and their phone number is 9580 2660.

Haven't used Nissport so can't comment, but I can highly recommend...

Z Shop. Lindsay really knows his stuff and (in my experience), will always give it to you straight.

Good luck with your hunt for a Z.

    Z Shop..>>

This is a recent dyno for forum member Bob in Oz (Hitec)

Modifications are included in his member details, all work was undertaken at Z Shop.

The power curve is incredibly smooth, other local workshops could only dream of achieving a result such as this.

After checking out his mods it is apparent that he has still got a relatively conservative configuration with plenty of upside if he so desired.

If you are fussy with your Z there is only one place to go, Z Shop in Glen Iris.

Doesn't Bobs car have like 500 hours of tuning?

I have never been to nissport, ive been to zshop. I would recommend nissport 'without ever even going there' after my first experience at z shop.

    Huh.???

Not too sure where you are coming from, if your intention is to highlight that Bob(Hitec) has the expertise and skill to produce excellent firmware for a Zed chip and has the dedication and commitment to spend time doing it you are correct.

What is your motivation and rationale for recommending a workshop you have never been too?

Just maybe the superb engine work completed at Z Shop was a contributing factor to the amazing power curve produced on the dyno.

Awaiting with interest a Z from Nissport that can produce anywhere near the same result.

    Errr Tony

I don't know if they were Nissport built but I've seen a few engines there with figures of around 800hp I believe (engine blocks with major reinforcement, etc). They've also worked on a rather crazy VG30DETT boat engine, the power output was WAY high although it had custom intake and turbo mountings since there wasn't the confines of an engine bay to worry about.

Why every time there's a question about a workshop in Melbourne do you write what reads more like an ad' dripping with superlatives for Z Shop than just personal experience, and take offence to any recommendations contrary. I know the history behind all these matters but everyone else seems to be over it.

If you have come across some VG30dett engines boat or otherwise that are 800hp that were not neccessarily produced at Nissport, I'm not too sure where the relevancy lies.

My personal experience at Z Shop has been great, I thought that was the what other Zed owners were seeking.i.e personal experience/recommendations.

As to your accusation that my posts constantly constitute an "ad' for Z Shop, I would suggest that this forum has experienced heavy promotion for other commercial entities.

I am yet to hear a bad thing about nissport, but i had a bad

experience the first time i went to Z shop, which was when i first bought my Z, and knew very little about the car and little about this forum.

    Thankz

    No offence tony.....

but I think bobs super smooth power curve is probably due to his great experience in tuning and the fact that he can spend hours on his car getting the tuning right. If bob had the time and resources to spend copiuos amounts of time on everyones car then there would be a plethora of people with super smooth power curves. Yes, I agree, a good engine rebuild is vital, but its the tuning that really makes the car. That aside I have heard of many excellent rebuilds from both Nissport and Z shop so that should make people from both sides happy. Why do I go to Nissport??? I bought my car there and have been happy with their service since.

    Cheers

    My experiences with nissport

and let me say at the start, I am not anti-Z shop. I go to Nissport because at the time when I was looking for a zed, they were importing. Having bought my car there and established a good rapport with spencer and Joe, I find Joe to be an excellent mechanic and spencer helpful in getting parts and advice.

    Cheers

    Yes there is another place!

Mate i would highly recommend Wallards automotive on bulleen road in bulleen. I have taken my car there for the last 2 years and been looked after very well with experienced z mechanics. There is always another z in the shop when i go in there. Simon who runs TTZ works out of this shop and the F1 smash repairs next door! I recommend both shops!

    Dyno shootout?

It seems to me that this is turning out to be a case of 'mine is bigger than yours.'An attempt to lure people to post their figures. Not gonna happen.
Tony I understand you've never been to Nissport. Is it fair to say that you wouldnt know whether or not they do actually produce cars that are smiliar to Bob's?
This thread has become a victim of politics. My advice to Silver Platinum is to go to both workshops and make his decision from there. I haven't used Z Shop but I'm sure they are dedicated to their work like Nissport are. The good side is that Bob, unlike some others here, is unbiased and does tuning for both businesses.

Good Luck to you Silver Platinum and apologies for the schoolboy antics of some members.

Mark's right, I've heard of brilliant work from both >>

I've even BEEN to both. I'd recommend either one. Personally, I go to The Z Shop these days, as it's easier for me to get my car too, etc etc... I've had my engine rebuilt at The Z Shop and I'm extremely happy with the results. Around 1.5 years ago I had a massive amount of trouble with my car that my mechanic couldn't even find the cause of... I took it to Nissport and within a few days we'd found the problem and had it fixed.

Each to their own... They're both great workshops. Take your Zed where you will, and good luck. :) :zlove:
