Yep, I agree. I just ordered some gear from him as well, and it arrived within a week. Also, he'd marked the customs declaration as "Gift" and a value of $10.
Yeah my new fuel pump arrived yesterday after being ordered on thursday. They must be streamlining their services in preperation for the free trade agreement
I bought a set of hydraulic lifters from him but by the time they got through customs they were only marginally cheaper but I did find out from the customs bloke that if the import duty and GST dont exceed $50 then more often than not they wont charge you for it. As for the value on the carton ..it means precious little to them. If they suspect that the value is around $400 to $500 they will hold it until you produce an invoice and then they will calculate the duty and gst and as I said if it exceeds the $50 then you have to pay. Thats why my U/D pulley got through without a hitch and yet the lifters didnt. What I should have done was bought a dozen this week and then the other half next week! John
Well the customs bloke himself... told me if it is under $250 then you don't get charged as it costs them more to check than they make, my dads mate who used to work for them said the same. I got the brembo brake kit, 24 lifters and auto tensioner from coz, he put $0 value for everything so they didn't believe that. I just bs'd them and only got $80 duty anyway... didn't ask me for an invoice or anything. I just said brake kit was warranty and made up reasonable prices for the other stuff. If you dodgy the cost in a believable way you'll get through pretty much every time. Go warranty for expensive stuff and low but believable prices for the rest.
