i was told by one of the instructors at MC (autokahna) that u can shave >

1.5-2secs around the autokahna track by using r-comps.... makes it worth it when most times are around 50secs.... 2 seconds can make all the difference :p

Thanks for the kind words.....>>

I will have to fabricate a camera mount for the car so in future we can film such events and really take the members for a ride. I definately wouldn't have minded having an all-wheel-drive GTR for the day, to try and overcome the traction issues.

Pete, a question >>>

I was wondering if you knew what your max speed was on the day? I was trying to work out whether I would have needed 3rd gear anywhere, or whether 1st and 2nd would have done.

My "best guess" is that you would have maybe peaked at 120 before having to back off or hit anchors?

on the speedo.

Well done Pete, hill climbs usually aren't suited to heavy powerful cars.:zlove:

R Spec tyres made 4 secs difference around QR sprints circuit in my case!!

I can highly reccommend getting a set of R spec tyres as it is the single best performance improvement in my opinion.

Defiantely Ian.......>>

Not a lot of time to look at the speedo when the corner is approaching. I am kicking my self though, because the Apexi unit has a peak hold function and before each session I kept thinking "Gotta look at the Apexi before I shut the car off" but I never remembered. It would have been nice to know what peak revs and top speed where though.

Knowing that you had such a gizmo >>>

I was hoping you had remembered/saved the data. Hopefully, next time I'll find out myself.

Yes, I'm kicking myself for not remembering.....>>

Don't worry Mikey, I'll be pushing you to get your car on the track next time.
We need to get REDZED Racing back on track.

There is a plan of attack to get back on the track >>>

hey, thats almost poetry.

When the new coilovers arrive the car will be sent out to be straightened up to remove the camber issues, straighten up the steering wheel, fix the moving to the left, and the coilovers fitted to ensure everything is then square. After that perhaps a tech day to fit the adjustable upper arms, and hopefully I will be picking up some adjustable tension rods while I am in Perth. Everything hinges around the arrival of the coilovers, so I will have to get an update from Ben.

The AVS wheels fell through at the Japanese end, so I spent that money on a rebuilt master brake cylinder, new O2's, new plugs, and the tension rods.

The way I see it I have until March to get wheels and tyres sorted out; the budget for that will depend on the cost to straighten the chassis. I would like to attack some curves in anger before the Nationals. Until the car is fixed I will only be doing straight line stuff (and I would include Geelong Speed Trials in that).

How do you straighten a chassis???

and is there a risk of further damage to your car by bending the chassis back into shape?

Cheers

Stop scaring me! No mention of further damage >>>

can be entered into in this discussion :sick:.

The front left has never been right since the hub smashed into 2 pieces and the resultant forces bent a few things here and there. As a result I have 0° camber on front left, maybe even very slightly positive, and about 3° -ve on front right - previously 3° on both. The car tracks to the left if I let go of the steering wheel or brake, and to go straight ahead the steering wheel needs to be turned to the right by far enough to upset the HICAS, causing the warning light to come on, which I believe disables HICAS.

I haven't wanted to find out what happens if I hit the anchors HARD at 190kmh under these conditions, so I have stayed away from circuits for the time being. Although Sandown has (from memory) 6LH turns and only 2RH, so perhaps it would be good there!!!

Some rough measurements indicate a couple of the suspension mounting points are up to 5mm from where they should be, and they will be pulled back into line - whether by a big hammer  or a proper jig , I'm not sure. Maybe a steering rack will be required.

I agree...

The combination of stickier rubber and stiffer sidewalls makes for a hell of a lot of handling difference.

If I could afford it and could put up with the road noise they make I would drive on them all the time.

Hi John >>

The link below is a calendar showing NDSOC events for the rest of 2004.

The October driver training / track day weekend at Sandown is an event I have not done before, in that it doesn't look like it has a "proper" track day status. It might be officially an untimed event.

Another event in November is the Geelong Speed Trials, which is best described as an "informal drag race with a bend" I haven't found where the 2004 event details are yet - or if it's on - Wykked may have email or snail mail info as a previous competitor.
CLICK HERE for a gander at last years event

It looks like Marque Sports are organising a sprint at Sandown in October, Calder twilight in December, and another Morwell event in November (although that event isn't listed as a hillclimb like the event this thread was discussing.)

There will of course be other track days through other clubs such as PIARC, Maserati Club, etc etc, which I don't have details of. You will probably find that by comparison with Vic/NSW, the Queenslanders have it really good with the way the QIR public track days are run.

Some more details for you.....>>

I'm still trying to geta date for the Geelong Speed Trials, but no luck yet.

The CAMS calander is one of the best around, since just about every event run in Australia is through them just about everything is listed. Check it out at http://www.cams.com.au

Another good one is the Marque Sports Association who are the group that organised the Hill Climb I just did. Their website is Marque Sports Car Association.

I'm also a member of the Phillip Island Auto Racing Club whos website also normally has a pretty up to date calander, but doesn't seem to be working properly at the moment. PIARC

If you can give us a bit of notice I'm sure we can help you out with accomodation and equipment for any race plans you have.

thanks guys

I know the speed trials well as I lived in Geelong for 27 years, I prefer the circuit racing though. Ill try to tee something up for later in the year, always wanted to drive phillip island so ill look into that possibility.

Maybe you just need a new cross member?

Or your new hub is bent?
