I recently had this clown in a statesman station wagon reverse over my front bumper in the service station. Luckily only paint damage. The RAA insurance company sent me a letter to say that they will pay for the repair but they did not realise that my car was a private import and they do not insure such cars. they are going to refund the balance of my premium.I definately told them it was an import when I took out the insurance.I phoned the guy who sent the letter to make sure it was not a mistake. He said it was lucky that there was only paint damage and no panel damage as they might have refused to pay up. He said that as the clause is clear in their policy document they do not have to pay.Be warned, just because they take your money does not mean they will pay up. I suggest it would be a very good idea to check your policy document for this sort of clause.:N(
Yeah we went through this a while back I work for an insurance company and the onus is on the owner to clearly advise us that the car is a japanese import. If they don't we can take they're money off them for years, but when it comes to a claim we don't have to pay them anything if we don't have a record of you advising that the car was an import. For all you import or turbo owners, call your insurers up and advise them that your car is an import and/or turbo and get them to send something to you in writing stating that they are aware that the car is a Japanese import. Then they can't wiggle their way around it when it comes to a claim.Remember guys, just because they gladly take your money off yeah each year, doesn't mean that they'll pay up a claim if you have an accident. Disclose everything and keep a record of everything.. Especially with insurance companiesHeheh.. Theres my two cents
It is something ALL people with insurance should know. It is YOUR responsibility to check that the policy is adequately covering your. They do however have the responsibility of reasonable disclosure when it comes to the fine print.
full comp IS a waste of money on cars like o urs. With the excess and trouble u will have making your claim its always just better to have 3rd party. I mean $350 bucks is all i pay. If i were to crash on full comp its a $2500 excess + $5500 per year with just cars. You are better off buying a half cut or whatever and fixing it yourself without all the worries of making a claim.
No you keep your 3rd party property but comprehensive ..... I reckon you have more success when you pursue the other driver for negligence:s
Maybe for you pre-teens it is Once your an old man like me at 26, $1,300 per year and reasonable excess with Shannons.Ben
If the car is under Hire Purchase The youre legally obliged to have it too. For me, like Blipman (who is only half right when he says he's and old bugger ), the cost of repairs is whats prohibitive and I would have it if it cost $2000. Cheers, Cletus
So what happens when we DO advise >>> an insurance company of something relevant, they DO take our money, and a claim occurs? I advised xxxx IN WRITING together with a premium renewal that my Cordia had 16×7" wheels fitted. The payment cleared, and for 12 months I thought I was covered. The next renewal came, and I noted that the wheels were not listed on the policy. I rang them, and they said the maximum width wheel they would cover was 6½", and that they would not re-insure me if those wheels were fitted. Now given that I had done entirely what was required under my duty of disclosure, what might have happened if I had needed to make a claim during that 12 months?
Or you get hit by someone that >>> does $2000 damage, then scarpers without leaving his details. Could have been a LOT worse, I guess.
Wot does that make 'seniors' like K-Zed & I? Geriatrics? [image]http://members.optusnet.com.au/markfield/soapbox.gif[/image] Anyway, try $695 Fully Comp, $1500 excess (42yo,rating one, Torque Lumley)
Happened to me as well Exactly the same thing, luckily i wasnt at fault in the accident. What shits me is that a simple VIN check which they probably have to do anyway, would show them that the car is a 300ZX and hence, an import.Cheers
You'd be covered.... ...less you hit a roller that then took out a bentley turbor that then sideswiped a mclaren F1. I think you'd be covered, but if it was big damage they's get nasty or at least try it on. Insurance is a waste of money full stop. Invest your insurance premiums in shares in the insurance companies instead. (not that it's a real great sector since 911) They're not the good guys ready with a helping hanf when misfortune strikes... they're crooks who rip you off blind and make lots of money from you. Bah.
