I've been quoted ~$3200 to cut out a rust bubble under the rear spoiler and respray the rear bar in metallic blackI see in the search function that some of you guys have had front bars/ half resprays for a hell of a lot less - have you guys got non-metallic paint, or am I getting shafted royally?

BS 4 sure! But just 2 clarify >>>

    >>> where is the rust? Does quote include rear (stock) spoiler removal/replacement?OEM spoiler's worth around $1200, so even taking that into consideration (if relevant) it's a BS price.Go elsewhere!

Wow $1500 is certainly a lot better

I had intended to get a 2nd or third opinion
The rust is a little spot right under the spoiler, on the lip where it joins the hatch.$3200 did include a new OEM spoiler, yep, for $1200 and $2k for the rear bar respray. nissan300zx` i was hoping to avoid spending 4 figures this time around but if I can't get someone to gimmie a reasonable quote I may just hit you up for the contact - $1500 is very temptiong anyway, but the Government decided I owe them a huge chunk of change this year.

    I am a spraypainter

yes they are shafting you with that price.<P>If you are supplying the bar as in the original on the car and the finish is good to fair and no repairs needed other than the small rust bubble, depending on the size of the bubble a realistic quote is between $500 to $1000, always shop around in regards to automotive body refinishing and as with everything view some of there work if possible and remember you get what you pay for

Aresspeed are useless at colour matching

A friend just had a bodykit made and installed by them. The painted bodykit parts after a couple of tries at respraying them still don't match the rest of the car.

For roughly the same job I paid...

...$450 odd. I removed the stock spoiler myself, had a piece of rust cut out and fixed up, holes from spoiler filled, and the whole rear hatch resprayed metallic silver.
I put the new rear infill panel in myself. The job was great, took them 4 days, the price was reasonable, and if there's a problem with the paint within the next few years they'll redo it for free... Bonus! When I say 'they', I mean Morayfield Smash Repairs.Be careful of shops that do insurance jobs too. As they know most of their work will be from insurance companies who WILL pay for the work, they sometimes load their prices accordingly. And there's HEAPS of work for them from insurance places, so they can charge you a limb and not care if you don't go back.Cheers,
    M
