Hey fellow Z-folk, Got my dash torn out and put back in a little over a week ago (damn heater core! Which now works great...), and so far everything seems fine except that now when I put the radio on the aerial doesn't auto-extend like it used to. In fact, I can't get it to extend at all under any circumstances! Any ideas? In the past week I've read tech articles, forums, pulled the head unit out and made sure it's all connected up correctly, checked fuses... nothing. Can anyone help me shed some light on the situation??? Thanks, Captain Mark P.S. T-minus 10 days and counting to slickback!
Does it make any sound at >> all when you turn the key. A clicking noise:?) If so, then its a reasonable bet that the Mast Cable is broken 8(. (This is made from plastic & has teeth down one side.) Its not hard to replace & can be bought from any good Auto Shop.:YD Aerofit Part No: AP250 & costs about $20. Cheers Kerry
After my mistake, I went >> and checked the label on the packet, and hey guess what! Its a AEROPRO AP250 Mast Replacement for a Z32 as listed above.:YD Not sure John, what an AP252 would fit. Cheers Mate Kerry
AP 252 is for Nissan Patrol, Maxima, 300ZX, straight off the box. It's quite possible that both will work equally as well.Handy to know if that's the case.
Remember THIS!!........... "Ok... so today Captain Mark & I had the bright idea of pulling my Alpine CD head unit out of my old Toyota & putting it in his Zed. It seemed fitting that the Zed should take it's rightful place of having a great CD player instead of the old tape deck. All went well in fitting it until we turned the ignition on in the Zed & sparks started flying & smoke came out."Contributing factor perhaps???
Sure do... How's it goin' Tony. Noticed the problem the day after I got it back from the workshop, well before those exciting few seconds of sparks, etc. Although it's up to you if you want to believe me or not, and I'll understand if you don't. Just one of those things. Regardless, I'm still without an aerial that's working though, so if you've got any tips I'm all ears! Cheers, M
Hey Pregz, actually the aerial hadn't been working before that little incident. The only damage we did that day was a couple of fuses & hurt my head unit a little. One of the reasons we pulled the stereo out that day was to check it was actually plugged in. Unfortunately it was, so we're still at a loss as to what's wrong.
Things to check... The head unit will have an "aerial" wire which, in most cases, complete a ground circuit to the aerial motor to raise it. Ensure this wire is connected, and also check to see if the aerial raises when the wire from the aerial motor is grounded.
OK, I think I'm following... The main aerial wire in the head unit doesn't seem to be the problem unless there's a break along its length that I can't see. When you say 'check to see if the aerial raises when the wire from the aerial motor is grounded', are you still referring to the above point you made, or is this something separate? If we can find 30 seconds on the cruise I might ask for some quick clarification then. Can't do too much about it now anyway with the Z in the panel beaters getting fixed up... here's hoping they finish by Friday!Cheers, see you on the cruise! M
Hey Keza, are you 100% sure of this? I just checked the Aerpro listing out of curiosity, and an AP250 is to suit a Commodore VN to VS series. Would be interesting if the masts are identical. AP252 is listed for 300ZX, 200SX, Maxima and Patrol.
