ok I know it isnt a Z but I do love my commodore....As some of you know....i split the petrol tank and it was leaking fuel so Mathius and my brother changed the tank using the pump that was in the split petrol tank. Before this my car was going fine even with a split ptrol tank (i just couldnt go far or smoke in it ;P) anyway so when we went to start it, after the tank was done and we had put more petrol in it,so it turned over and everything but it wouldnt maintain the revs/idle and it was backfiring like a b&^ch so we left it.....we had a theory that the petrol was being blocked going to the engine so it wasnt getting enough to maintain the revs...ok so we go for the cheapest option first....fuel filter...after 2 months of it sitting there...tonight my brother finally changed the fuel filter and we go to start it (and what felt like below ) temperature mind you) and the car was turning over but not starting as such...we jump start it from my brothers commodore and it starts stays on for a bit then dies in the ass. After that it wouldnt start...my brother was working the throttle and even leaving it open ,nor wiggling it a lot, it didnt even start...so now I am posting here in the hope that one of you car wizz's may have "an idea" of what this sounds like and may help us to diagnose it. Lube Mobile is $140 just for a call out and I simply cant afford that (especially not with the z needing a starter motor now :-Z)so if anyone has any ideas please please please please post them even if they seem silly they may be something that we havnt thought of. Thanks heaps guys <3 Krystal :-Z :`(
i dont have one and the> equivalent would be my DFI module which I got replaced in October :/ thanks anyway :-Z
Are you getting fuel to the engine? Sounds like inconsistent fuel delivery for it to finally start then die again.1st check the fuel pump is operating correctly, delivering sufficient fuel and wiring is tight. Maybe it was jostled during the new tank install.2nd check all the fuel return/vaccuum hoses... if one is loose/blocked, it may be interfering with fuel supply.3rd check you are getting spark ...If all else fails, trial and error.replace fuel pump from wreckers first?
yeah was thinking that> that is most likely going to be the next step replacing the fuel pump.... How would I check the lines though? How would I make sure there isnt a blockage in the lines? air compressor? I really have no idea.... Thanks for the reply...much appreciated :-Z
On a Commode ?> Dunno- perhaps loosening the fuel line where it goes into the intake (wrap a thick towel around and beneath in case it is pumping) and kick her over for a second or two ... If the pump is working, expect a whole heap of fuel spraying out so be prepared with a fire extinguisher and no bystanders with cigarettes (end of disclaimer!!!)But if you get a dribble/none coming out then that's a big clue to a bad pump/or power to pump etc...or prostate (but that's another situation)!PS: Also check fuel pump fuse?(Don't know where) Could have been disturbed by disconnecting fuel pump during tank swap. Pays to replace just in case-could have a micro split invisible to human eye...But given that the prob started after the tank swap you could assume it is fuel related...Confucious say, if problem occur- check last things you 'touched' in order and work backwards from there.
cool will try what you have suggested as soon as I can get my brother here and Ty off his scrawny ass seriously though...thank you so much...very muchly appreciated :-Z :YD
Less painful way to tell if fuel pump> is working is to place someones ear under fuel tank as you turn ignition to "on" position (dash lights illuminate). They are listening for a click and then humm...Although this is not foolproof, pump can "humm" but still not be putting out much fuel. But cleanest way to check in 1st place if it's pump.In this case- no click/humm= dead fuel pump/fuse etc. Worth trying a few times to be sure8(
Im leaning towards the fuel pump i remember when i was going for a ride on my friends 180sx and it just stoped in middle of no where. Fuel pump still hummed, but engine wouldnt start. This was one week after him installing a nismo pump. It turns out that due to his installation something sliped off like a return line or something along those lines. I didnt help him with the install so wouldnt have a clue what his talking about. But i'd strongly recomend you look into this area even if the fuel pump is humming, sounds like a very similar case.
Fuel pipes You may have the fuel feed pipe and the return pipe crossed therefore not getting fuel to the engine. It happened to me when I changed motors in a car. Sound like similar symptons. Good luck.
