Was recently involved in an accident where the zed got sandwiched (i wrote a post) anyway, insurance came through without a writoff and they are paying!!! Wasn't my insurance as not my fault so took about 3-4 weeks!!! Anyway it's time for upgades!!Looking at border style bonnet from UAS. It's fibreglass but does anyone have it? Look good? how's the fit? and think it's going to easily crack etc?Cheers HaydenPS: also getting 2000 style rear lights and centre panel! matches my red zed perfectly!
I got the C/F one. I was told the c/f is >>> good quality. One problem was that 1 of the 4 mounting bolts, on the hinge, was half a hole out; no hole for the bonnet support; no holes for the water sprayer line fixings; the thickness of the c/f made it difficult to put the spray nozzles in and they recommend using bonnet pins. The fit isn't bad, it sits a bit high in the front behind the headlights. Check my profile picture. The two major reasons for buying a c/f bonnet were: the noticeable cooling effect and if you paint a f/g bonnet the extreme engine heat warps the f/g bonnet therefore cracking the paint.( I was told this by the body guy at Morpowa in Adelaide.) I was told it looked a bit ricey but there were legitimate reasons for the purchase. :-Z
Haven't got pics yet >>> But you can check it out at Wykked's tech day. I am waiting to get a particular style of mesh (Stillen) for the vents before I consider the bonnet finished and take piccies of it. Suppose I could take a couple on the weekend and email them to you yhough. But it looks great - Frank at F1 Smash painted and fitted it; took a bit longer than he originally thought. There are a couple of areas that have rubbed, might need to play with the bonnet stops at the front.
Border Bonnet works brillantly for both heat extraction and for looks [image]http://www.cmpheritage.com/steven/profile/polaroid_jervis_1.jpg[/image] [image]http://users.tpg.com.au/adslouin/frontmorph.jpg[/image]
Why not contact RZM...>> RedZedMikey has one and is also in Vic. Go and see his in the flesh.I like the concept but I don't like the look. Yes it would be nice to let all that hot air out of the bonnet but I think it looks a bit tacky. Why not get yourself a 2000 front bar? Or Stillen? Or Wings West?
Have wings west kit! Yeah go the kit IB and love it! You wouldn't believe the force the urethane took in the accident. the rear bar (hit at about 60kmph) is salvagable! Looking to add to the overall impression with the bonnet. The price is less than a new stock bonnet from nissan (which is about $1200) and about the same price as a second hand bonnet (about $700-900). Yeah it will lokk great but the point raised about the paint cracking from the heat and the fibreglass warp under heat does concern me. Any experiences anyone?Cheers Hayden
That would be great! Yeah franks doing my work too and I highly recommend from experience! He said he thinks it fits pretty well. Did he mention heat affects on fibreglass? Some pictures would be great though if available, I do think the red zeds will look great with them!
I have one>>> Bought a fibreglass one from www.carmate.com.au. Love it! There are two types, one has a more radical shape and an extra vent. I got the more subtle one. I'll post a pic soon. Only cost $550 and looks awesome.Cheers, Matt
UAS bonnet pics for Bellenium >> Got busy at lunchtime and took a few pix of the UAS bonnet from a few different angles. Come and have a closer look this Sunday at Wykked's tech day :YD. Bear in mind that the vents haven't been meshed yet, and its not likely to be done on tech day either unfortunately.[image]http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0XAAAANQbYg545mVfQuqhLnM4owhy5I7h6VUPveRR1vqRcnGwOwaEY1J8XYT5Q0cgDOQwvUCjfyVGSuNLHrXqE2R77AgR!mhuVUNpJHkoRuoIEjuAt5KensK1g8cCRz3ZHdQem3Efg!0/Bonnet%20-%20from%20inside.JPG?dc=4675475413397481380[/image][image]http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0ZAAqA4YelQ145mVfQuqhLnM4owhy5I7h7oU2UBBdaHtaABeRcCZgYpmSY1m6n9AKRxRSzWpDXM*elszuVX8dOIuCOnIXHE1ezOI!RpF6Ud!EK98qturIY66dgWQ38*yR*N9ZEBYE!EXTYsyzfwbLMw/Bonnet%20-%20from%20outside%20rear.JPG?dc=4675475413402428546[/image][image]http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0YwDpAs8cU4V45mVfQuqhLnM4owhy5I7hYfqa!l51t8e7CV19MgQgUGnmp6Hgpvmo8n1VKgNWBThkpSyPZkmN8phRTubXnqPaJ9Y5GRStVvDa3CUD2*ibjyZgeEbMHngezRb0cKREBb5HXYW70Lf4xQ/Bonnet%20-%20from%20%C2%BE%20rear.JPG?dc=4675475413389829975[/image][image]http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0ZABfF04deK945mVfQuqhLnM4owhy5I7hYfqa!l51t8chiB6sCuMF7ve6vV4Lh6XY1fUAeUYUoCUWIqcPd1yJidUJ5SwAYIxQngCKwn9bi5cj5PmKp1fkG*Wm6FW56y0rNliYZdGtEKP3fHEkT7JCRw/Bonnet%20-%20from%20%C2%BE%20front.JPG?dc=4675475413385280491[/image][image]http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0WwANA4EbxvB45mVfQuqhLnM4owhy5I7h*gfLfjuo*Z!ralzSAp5aeM84b5UrdxI62YDJyx5QbSeZXj9YC3zla94LPqSXocY5ptGFowS841PCHxJ5!M0szW3BXzVMJcoZhIsNfd1iUMA/Bonnet%20-%20from%20front.JPG?dc=4675475413394204479[/image][image]http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0WgAqA*0aN8d45mVfQuqhLnM4owhy5I7hTcB23AlMJwAOyenXftfRV8Pe2WzWSiHFvS9icaHqJ0!f9Q!FrVHdGjj7YY5Woj2FRmxzVoGtPcE2DF01XlSX0SbKDREWbVShZ6GYcLI4sGQ/Bonnet%20-%20from%20side.JPG?dc=4675475413406384688[/image][image]http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0WAANA!AaSrN45mVfQuqhLmArsD2RBPGs7JH!6mGekCJX5FYlud9nzvwZHxuRJQ4aIZrxUIXpsx5ET12Sc1cRgnBuK5XP5no8rbI95S!hRBPQJJtxXYVuRCjflTli6gGwOwAAAP****8/Bonnet%20-%20underside.JPG?dc=4675475413411627730[/image]
Or you could try TTZ......Ooops!> Sorry Shane, their not "real" manufacturers either.:-0 :-0 :-0 Cheers Lloyd :-Z }D }D
The REAL Manufacturer is No not UAS as we don't make anything. Just design and test and have items made to our specs and requirements, function and usually exclusive etc. A company in Sydney near hear called Fibre Master. Yes it is exclusive to us. The genuine article came off a car we sold and was imported from Japan with it on. It was poor quality as the gel coat and the fibreglass was too thin so it was obvious it was a fibreglass on the car painted and all. Steven got one of our early ones so has been on his car for quite a while and it is still nice and can't tell it is fibreglass. It is differnt as it is much better quality and thicker gel coat and fibreglass and a different mesh and bnnet cat and fastening system for the hinges and fits well. We have made a little thinner on the leading edge as this was as light issue. Not just looks as they vent quite a lot of hot air from under that cramped engine bay. Yes Nathan can look after you, you closet fan from the west.
John doing mates rates For Nathan? who said he wasn't a good bloke. Hey Mikey take your time with fitting the mesh, cut and bend it to shape first, i used tape to hold it in place, then sikaflexed it,hasn't moved, looks good, messy job though just got to use your fingers.see pic [image]http://users.tpg.com.au/adslouin/mesh.jpg[/image]
Ron Bought this bonnet last year at real good price mates rates at our stock take sale last year. If it gets past fussy Ron it must be half good. Ron I think also saw the original one on that blue zed before it was fixed up at that Auto Expo a few years back?
