Cool, hopefully it will be held at the same.

place as last year, I'll be able to compare it to last years reading and see what difference a few mods have made.Andrew

    Some results missing......

or are there some results missing??? Where's Ty's result in the NA six class??? Or that guy that got 197 at the wheels with his turbo 180sx??? They just dont appear to be there.

    Contact him.....

because I think there are a few others missing and you are currently winning the NA 6 class. They're trying to rob you of a trophy!!..:). Hell, you have your dyno printout as proof.Cheers

Oh yeah! Trophies!!! *runs off to write* >

I forgot about that for a moment...... Still, the best part of the day for me, was hopping out of my car and seeing everyone's faces. Priceless! And to think, people making those faces over *my* baby! I thought she was almost dead!! :DThanks heaps for the confidence boost guys, and for putting some more "Zpark" my relationship with the Z, lol.. >D< :-Z

    Different car

Re mods, every car is different with different compression and flow in and out of engine etc. Your car would have more power loss than only 10kw. V8 Supercars have very small drive train loss and even they have more than this.
Spinning all those gears and 250mm clutch plate and flywheel, 3 inch 14kg plus tailshaft, over 9 inch crown wheel heavy diff, heavy drive shafts etc. More like 25% and yes auto a bit more. The equasion is an estimation and depends on over all HP as a 800 hp car would not lose 25%.
The only way to know for sure is put engine on engine dyno then put in the car and put on chassis dyno in shoot out mode.

Could indicate a bit of a problem with

the clutch, if in neutral and letting cost to a halt - comop ratios should not enter into it ;) Can't really see the relevance in a no load measurement to see how fast the drivetrain slows down, as it's not only measuring very small changes with a huge amount of variables (residual brake friction, tyre size, adhesion, pressure etc etc, but it's also measuring it 'on backoff', ie where the diff and gearbox gears are loaded opposite to what they are on power - they are designed to transmit power efficiently in the forward direction, not the reverse. Maybe it is measuring something else?

    Re drivetrain loss

Maybe the Commy will give some clues. Pretty sure that stock VNs are around the 125 engine kW, and the one on the day got ~100 rear wheel kW. If it's a stocker (the non standard cold air intake would probably not alter things much), then that's a 20% drivetrain loss. It's an auto.

I dunno about the VN, please read >

The VN on the day was 'my competition', as it was my girlfriends car... Now, to be totally honest, we've had a couple of "drags", side by side down the road... Nothing dangerous mind you, there was noone around and it was at a late hour down a well lit street... Anyhow, that aside, I beat him every time, but he was RIGHT behind me, probably had his nose at my tail... If his car was REALLY putting out 100kW's, and mine is at the 132.6 that I managed... I'd smoke him!!!On top of that, he just had his car dynotuned, he has extractors, plus the pod filter, and 70mm throttle bodies... After the dyno tune he achieved a result of 120.2kw's at the wheels... On the dyno day on saturday, they did a warm up run where the VN managed around 130kw's, then they grabbed his previous dyno sheet, did something with the dyno, then he produced two 100kw runs, which were EXACTLY 120.2kw's at the wheels...... I don't know what's going on with it, and I'm not complaining, but yeah... just thought I'd let you guys know... that figure really didn't seem right...Also, I'm in his car a lot, and it *does* have more power than the pulsar's that were running on the same day... I'll vouch for that. ;) :-Z

    Sorry I'm a bit confused......

are you saying that on saturday he got 120rwkw or 100rwkw?? I only remember seeing 100rwkw??? And yeah, I think some of the figures were a little odd. It begs the question, how many more kw's do you need to effectively be faster??? Is 30kw a big difference in terms of being able to pull away from someone or do you need more?? Who knows....

Too many people only concentrate on

peak power figures. How fast a car is in a straight line depends on a hundred other variables, including weight, torque/power gear and diff ratios, tyre diameter, etc. For example, you could have a light car with a wide ratio gearbox and a narrow but peaky power band. Let's say the power band peaks at 200 kW, but drops off rapidly either side of this peak. The gearbox has a wide spread of ratios, which means that the engine drops off the power band at each gear change, and also the diff ratio is tall, but the engine is not good at making powerlow in its rev band. On the other hand, you have a car of the same weight with an engine that only makes 100 kW, but it does so early, and smoothly up to a reasonably high rev range. The gears are chosen so that the engine stays in its power band once it gets moving. Which one do you think would be 'faster'?

    Ok, well in Ty's case.....

I know you know lots about zeds and commie's dave, so with all the info you've given me, and the characteristics of each car in regards to all that stuff you just told me (peak power, gear ratios) etc, do the dyno figures make sense in regards to Ty just being able to stay in front of the commie in a drag situation??Cheers
