HiI'm interested in buying a 300zx in the next few weeks but insurance for an import model will be a bit over 4000. Insurance for a locally delivered model will be a bit over 2000.I'm just wondering how one might easily know whether a car is imported or locally delivered, and if locally delivereds outnumber the imports or not, and if you's think I'll have trouble finding one...
Depends on budget and power req'd? Most are imported Twin Turbo's - a good clean 90/91 TT will set you back around $15k to $20k. A 2+2 being at the upper end of that range.Come to the tech day or on a cruise, if close to Brisbane, and talk to everyone.
Imported.... Imported cars will most likely be a turbo (although mine is a Jspec NA). The aus-spec cars are all 2+2, non turbo's. They also sit a little higher than the J-spec ones and the early models dont have climate control like the J-spec versions. Aus-spec versions however will usually cost more as they have a higher value, and are also easier to insure.Cheers
Want to talk insurance? Talk to me! I recently went theu them all getting my J-Spec insured. Yes the Aus-spec are generaly cheaper to insure but you don't get those glorious turbines pinning you to the seat.Sorry/. Regain composure.Come to the Qld tech day next Saturday (Under Upcoming Events) or email me for more details...There are ways to get cheap TT insurance... just have to know who to go thruPS: DO you want a turbo version?
Local delivery Z's have shallower front bar (integrated bumber), no side air inlets for the intercoolers, combined front parking and turn-indicator lights closer to the center-line of the car, dummy light fittings where imports have the turn-indicators, no badge on the removable front airfilter cover(between the headlights), non-turbo engine, are 2+2(ie 4-seater), aircon rather than climate-control with LCD status panel, seat-belt mounts on the B-pillar rather than the vertical door frame, hi-intensity rear lamp in RHS of rear bar with dummy in LHS side. They have manufacturers plates (both local and Nissan MoCo)mounted on the cross-bar in front of the radiator. There are probably a few other obvious differences, but these are the ones I can think of off-hand. Mine has adequate power (especially if a first car)... I find TTs slightly scary (no, guys, don't flame me) but OK if driven sensibly. The autos almost always have cruise-control. Insurance, as you have already found out, is much more affordable. So far as I'm aware, only Japanese imports (J-spec) have HICAS(rear-wheel steering), but I stand to be corrected. You may want to look in FAQ section... see menu on left side of the page, you'll find heaps of info about the differences, merits and what to look for when buying a Z! Happy Z-ing. Cheers. Doug
same problem for me thought i could add as i am in the same struggle at the moment.what i have discovered is this: i would prefer a 2 seater so jap only way to go. i want an na so could go for either. insurance higher on jap first year $3700 for me comapred to $2500 (1992 na) on ausspec. however there are really hardly ausspec for sale very often and if they are they arent right for me...wrong colour etc...the are usually high km like 150k plus and i have seen many 1990 go for closer to $20k. wheras the jap spec you have more choice and there are usually many in the 13-16 price range.now the way i look at it is that i would pay 5k more for a AUS SPEC, compared to a jap spec. however insurance would cost me $1500 less. if you look at the jap spec you pay 5k less but 1500 more for insurance,AUSSPEC cost $19k insure 2.5k total on road $21.50 JAPSPEC cost $14k insure 4k total cost on road $18it means your total spending is less and you save 3500 more with a jap spec.the ausspec are no better in condition to jap spec so really neither is better than eachother. dont worry i confused myself too....8-} 8-} hope it helped a little Cheers
