    I'm looking at buying a 180 for work, which leaves the 300 for play. (This would mean the 300 will only get more ballistic!)Keeping it all Nissan just seems like a good idea.What I need to know is anything you guys might know of about these cars that I should look for. Also wouldn't mind knowing fuel economies, and tank sizing, reasonable prices etc etc. Is the SR20 better than the CA18?Common Quickie and Stama :D>D<

    I've been doing some research lately (ooh, that'll get tongues wagging) and as far as CA18 and SR20 goes, the 20 is the better bet. I know there are plenty of CA18 fans out there, and with good cause (go THZX!), but from the people I've talked to including Silvia experts and wreckers:
    - SR20 is lighter
    - CA18 is very rev happy, however lacks torque
    - both are pretty tough despite the SR20 not having an iron block like the 18
    - each is good for around 220rwKw before the internals start to run into trouble (a lot of people think more, however it seems once you get to that range, while it will handle it, the days are numbered)Ben

    I bought one recently

    Was going to have some fun with it,but it looks like my son has claimed it for himself.
    Acouple of forums that will have all the info you want www.silviansw.com and www.nissansilvia.com,
    I joined the nsw one and they have been most helpful with info and obtaining parts, give them a look :YD

    DO IT, DO IT, DO IT

    Keep it nissan. you probably already know what i think afeter a few conversations but here are my opinions (and my opinions only). I'd say go the sr only because of the sr's and ca18's i've been in. but then again THZX has a pretty powerful 1.8 from what i hear. I guess it really depends how much power you want spending minimum $$$ and saving them for the zed. but i guess if your going to be using it daily for your work or whatever go the 1.8 because you'll save a little on fuel and are still very fun i believe. i guess in the end it's just personal preference. i mean really there both high quality motors and the difference is only 0.2 litres. Wish i still had a zed but you know S@#$$% happens. My 180 should be on the way now and I'm getting really anxious to start driving it (as soon as i get my license back). To tell you the truth i wasn't all that excited about the purchase when i decided. I guess i was still grieving for the zed. Now I can't wait i think here awesome cars.I probably just rambled a whole lot of crap but I can't be bothered reading over this I just got home from work and I'm wrecked.8-}

    Opinion...>>

    I have had a 180 for a couple of years and use it as a daily driver , it has been a great car.The SR/CA debate rages on forums from time to time, if you don't intend to modify I would go the SR. CA's are older and it is pretty hard to find one good condition, if you do find one they are $1500/$2000 cheaper than the SR which can provide plenty of capacity to modify beyond power of stock SR.I didn't intend to modify mine, but couldn't resist temptation when I discovered how cheap and easy it was to achieve. Mine had done a genuine 63k when I bought it (had books from Japan), it is now 172rwkw and at 1200kg's is pretty slippery.Even with 444cc GTR injectors I get around 12lit/100k's around town. Mine is a manual and they are about a second quicker.Blip was a bit optimistic and max power with stock internals, my CA is right on the edge while 220rwkw would be possible out of an SR . Of interest is that Nissan stopped production of the CA because it was considered too expensive to produce at a time that depression started to hit Japan, there is no superior technology in the SR it just has a higher capacity.The CA has a tiny turbo/I/C and smaller brakes, however with pod,zorst,13psi and ECU upgrade about 130rwkw can be achieved (stock is about 80/90rwkw) .This compares to a stock SR which is about 105/110 rwkw.The Zed is a superior car in nearly every respect,however the 180 is an easier car to drive in day to day traffic. There are some very quick examples around including one I know that did a 12.1 with street tyres.Now that I have finished my garage I intend to start on a CA project engine sometime in the future, they can be obtained for about $1000 which is very cheap . Good examples of either are hard to find, I paid $11k for mine and consider it a bargain. No mechanical problems at all, 100k service is now due with timing belt change costing only about $250 . SR has a chain and is slightly noisier.Good Luck with your hunting.

    Consider a 4WD Turbo Bluebird SSS

    A little known, but immensely powerful beastie :YD (a classic Q-Car - inconspicuous looking, but goes like a demon, 4 doors and 5 seats) is also a Nissan and is supposed to be better than the early WRX's (quicker and more refined)... I've got an Australian NA version U13(albeit with a different engine (2.4 lit), and I love it...)
    Blipman will probably be able to correct me but I believe they have a SR20DET engine ~ all I know is it is a 2 lit turbo..

    Uhoh, you don't own one do you?

    Then I'm in trouble, although if you own one and don't even know what engine its got, I should have plenty of ammo :)Ben
