Sorry as this is not zed related but i really need some help from some queenslanders. I know some german people who have come out here on holiday. They purchased a EA Falcon to drive around in. Quite understandably (the EA is a real POS) the water pump went and they cooked the motor and are stranded in Carmilla (south of Mackay. The only mechanic in the town said that he would charge them $1500-$2000 for a replacement motor. This sounds like he is trying to rip foreigners to me. It would cost me about a grand to get that done here in SA. Are the prices just that much worse in Queensland or is he a rip-off merchant? What do people suggest to try to get a better deal (I thought maybe it would be cheaper to get it towed to Mackay and the engine fitted at a better mechanic)? Does anyone know of any mechanics in Mackay that would do a good cheap job? Sorry about the very unrelated post but I need to help these people and i thought the forum would be a good place to turn. 5years ago reco engine $1200 5years ago I replaced the engine in my 82-celica with a reco-engine from Higgonbottoms for $1200 (a stock standard engine) installed. So $2000 is probably okay for this type of engine installed.But they could probably buy another POS for the same price as the replacement engine.

Thouse Motors Are woth 400-600 second hand, 3 month warrenty installed under $1000, if its just to drive for a little while thats what i'd be doingRgardsAnthony
Yep sorry.. small volume equals big $. Get to a higher volume area (Mackay) and let your fingers do the walkin'
