Nah, some bigger ARC ones, but they are pretty bashed up and old.

Bashed up and old doesn't have to mean that they are no good...
You could of just spray them with water while he was tunning if there was an issue with the air temperatures...
In the environment such as workshops there is no air flow and fan just isn't enough to cool down everything...

You were monitoring the IC's physical temp and air temp?
    That's cool...

The ARC (even if old) should support well above the level you made.
Stock piping even holds well above that (with admitted difficulty)
I don't think that was your "restriction" so to speak

The intercoolers probably work much better out on the road than with just the dyno fan for air flow. More so if you open up the front bar and duct them.

I agree, next tune on mine will be road tune only.
On the dyno, it just heat soaks. Nothing like real world out on the open road tuning.

The dyno will be used for a single power run to see what numbers the road tuning has achieved. Nothing more.

Dyno is great to get your maps sorted with in controlled environment where you don't need to break 1000 road rules in order to tune your car properly :)

Thought they would be alright as well, but plenty of the fins are bent which would have an effect. Mechanic commented on them as well as he was putting the build together but I didnt want to go the extra cash.

By stock piping do you mean stock IC piping? As I havent modified that at all.

Ducting could be something to look at as dont have anything there at the moment.

Trent at Chequered Tuning has a great rep, so happy to trust his diagnosis.

Interesting regarding the road tune discussion though.

Engine internals are all stock so also a little reluctant to really push it.

IAT is going to be affected by three things

    1. The temperature of the air going in to the turbos
    2. The efficiency range that your turbos are operating in
    3. The ability of your intercooler to absorb heat from the air coming out of the turbos

The experienced professional whom you've paid good money has done the right thing. If you increase variable 3 (larger intercoolers, more air to intercoolers, intercoolers where the cores haven't been damaged) it stands to reason that you'll be able to stretch the friendship with variable 2.

Dyno tuning gives the operator precise control at any load point, and the ability monitor things like afr, iat, manifold pressure, etc. if you're really concerned about the effects of road v dyno tune on your intercooler ask them to put the fans on the corners.
