Going to 500WHP? Some questions

    Hello!
I'm Nicolas from Argentina. A friend is in the journey to build a 500+WHP Z32 (VG30dett). At this moment the car is doing ~400 crank HP. Now the idea is a fully built engine (rods, pistons, new turbos) to reach 500WHP or more.

    Now some questions about it,
    - Is the OEM MAF sensor enough for 500WHP?
    - Are two Garett GT2560R enough for 500WHP?
    - Is there any consideration that we need to take care about? (Yes, the clutch will be replaced).
    - Is there any consideration about tuning that I need to take care?

    Thanks!!

    Yes, technically

    - Are two Garett GT2560R enough for 500WHP?
    Not without e85

    - Is there any consideration that we need to take care about? (Yes, the clutch will be replaced).
What fuel/fuel system requirements. What is the car used for

    - Is there any consideration about tuning that I need to take care?
What ECU will be used? What do the local tuners like to use? Nistune is good value/features at those levels. If going standalone, lose the MAF.

I am at about 450RWHP (Australian Dyno)

    I run:
maxed out 740cc injectors. + fuel rail to suit (go bigger)
    GT2560r
    AMS exhaust manifolds
Dual MAF with a Selin kit.
    E85 fuel
    Single walbro pump
    Split dumps
    3" back to 2.5 mufflers
16psi (was going for 18, but ran outta injectors)
    Nistune ECU with fuel flex.
    Japtek style side mounts.

This is on an Factory Nissan motor, no fancy rods/pistons.

Are you e85? Is that why injectors maxed ?

I'm running a pair of billet wheel GT2560R ~ 23psi on pump 98 and making 487whp. Mostly head work, head studs, forged pistons only, fresh bottom end. Cheap Japtek / Godspeed intercoolers which aren't the best so depending on your cooler setup you could potentially reach 500 without E85 if sticking to 2560s. Definitely possible, just depends on what the guy wants.

If he ever decides he wants more, any 2860 setup will do it much more readily and just a tad more laggy. Down to personality, remember there's always someone out there with more. Make enough for your own needs and call it a day.

    What about heads

I am running 490HP at 18PSI, with E85 and 1150CC injectors, but heads have been ported and running 0.5mm oversize valves with double valve springs.
Are you guys making these numbers without head work????
Also had to beef up power to the Welbro Fuel Pump 480L/PH

Hello Mike! Thanks for your answer.

We will run on pump gas and E85 on boost! The car is used mostly in the street, and sometimes in the track.

We're using Nistune over the stock ecu, I'm the tuner.

Hello madcow! Thanks for your time
That looks pretty sweet! Are you running on e85 everytime?

    Thanks for your answer Mike!
We will run E85 as a safety measure, since our pump gas isn't the best one haha.

And thanks for the time to everyone has replied! Your comments are super useful for us. I'll update soon (-:

How do you find the Nistune with flex? Z32 number 2 I am aiming for 500rwhp next year and undecided with the ECU at this point in time. I do like the idea of retaining a factory ECU for driveability, cold start and all the other stuff an OEM unit provides but not sure about the resolution and adaptability of the Nistune units when looking for big power.

I am planning on getting a E85 tidy up tune done. Its a little piggy to drive, but it could be just to the cold weather in canberra, I am yet to see how it goes in warmer weather. Starting at under 10degrees is a little hard, but once it is up and running its fine. On 98 the car starts and runs pretty much like stock.

While it could be better, for the price it you cant expect the world.
