Some 5-6 years ago, a PP was done on my auto N/A ... my then Zed guru advised that it was not necessary to replace the Exhaust half moon seals .... of course, they now appear to be leaking ..... !!!! (yep, hindsight is great) - everything else for a full PP was done. We have a Tech Day coming up very soon and i need to get an order to Coz without delay ... so to my question(S):- Will I need to replace again the PCV complete hose set ($US65) AND the Air Regulator/AAC valve hose set ($US48) .... ????? I know that I will need the usual range of gaskets:- - Plenum Gasket. -AAC/IACV Gasket. -Intake valve cover Gaskets (2). - Throttle body gaskets. ... Plus the half moon seals and possibly the rear heater core hoses. Your URGENT advice would be much appreciated.
if those hoses were replaced 6 years ago, then it is unliely they will need replacing again. you can easily test which hose require replacing with a simple "squeeze test" if the hoses are hard and not easily plyable, then replacement is required. if they are nice and soft still, then no problems. You will still need to be careful when removing as it is easy to tear or damge hoses if they are moved in the wrong way when doing a plenum pull.
I'd recommend getting the aluminium half moon seals. As Jinxed says, if the hoses are still soft than they should be ok.
Have a chat too Marcus aka CarCraze and see what he has in stock, will be quicker and comparative on price. I know he has a fair bit in stock . http://www.carcraze.com.au/nissan-oem-300zx-exhaust-valve-cover-rubber-plug-h http://www.carcraze.com.au/nissan-oem-300zx-aac-iacv-valve-gasket-z32 http://www.carcraze.com.au/300zx-z32-vg30-plenum-intake-manifold-gasket
6 years....? If the car is regularly driven, AND your going to the lengths of a plenum pull, I'd be change every hose INCLUDING all high pressure fuel lines as a matter of course and not cheap-skating on anything. The "squeeze" test is ghetto at best when dealing with hoses that may have split or cracked in a place you cant squeeze, like right up at hosetails which is usually the place they fail. Its just pure false economy to shortchange on items that are known to degrade and fail in a surprisingly short time in the overly abusive Zed underbonnet environment and at the end of the day are not that pricey. Would you consider running your rubber cam belts another 50K K/s after 100k because they "looked" perfect and were still nice and soft?...I dont think so. E
Baz unless you are intending on changing the intake cam cover seals, the upper to lower plenum gasket is all you need. You won't be removing the throttle bodies, you won't be removing the AAC unless you have been having problems with idle speed and as Jinxed said, if the relevant hoses were done 6 years ago they will still be fine. As tassuperkart recommended, change the fuel hoses for good measure and a couple of the PITA 8mm water hoses up the back.
Baz i might still have brand new BDE half moon seals if you dont end up ordering from Coz. I just need to find it as its in storage somewhere.
Guys ... many thanks to you all for your quick, excellent responses .. just the info i needed .... Ian .. I saw and did wonder about the aluminium half moon seals .... Again, many thanks .....
Half Moon Seals .... Many thanks for the offer ... but i have the seals from when the the PP was first done but HM seals not installed .... that hurts... lol.
PP parts .... Steve ... many thanks for the reminder on Marcus ... Spoke with him tonight and have ordered the two valve cover gaskets and the Plenum Gasket ... unfortunately, he is out of stock on the heater core hoses (rear of engine) .. so will have to make a quick decision whether to go for these via Coz ... And many thanks to Marcus(Carcraze) ... Service with phone call back was tops ... !!!!
No problems Baz, maybe just check with Nissan to see if they have them in stock, might work out cheaper and quicker than ordering from the USA .
Another Question: Does anyone know the approximate shipping time for Coz using regular mail ($US25.00) versus using UPS ($70.00) ... for Heater Core Coolant hose, rear of engine - 2 pieces !!!!
Probably several weeks, i know when i had stuff sent via UPS from Z1 it took 14 working days, so nearly 3 weeks. Not sure on what Coz is like, but if it's not priority mail it'll be slower than you walking around the gold course Baz.
Stuff direct from COZ i have found to be pretty fast (sometimes as quick as 7 days) If i cheap out and used a forward shipper it can be 12 to 14.
Baz i have had a rear bumper skirt along with lots of other parts in a big massive box arrive to me within 4 business days & that was just regular shipping. Have you had a look on ebay? May have luck finding a local supplier.
Maybe even try some one like enzed hoses or pirtek to see if they can custom make the hoses, as it just involves heating and remoulding current hose lengths.
CARCRAZE >>> A BIG THANK YOU >>>>> TOP SERVICE, Marcus ..... !!!! The 3 parts ordered from Marcus arrived at lunch time today, Friday .. great service. Now just have to hope that the hoses by Regular Mail from the USA makes it in time ....
The good news is that the heater core coolant hoses arrived from Coz today ..... For information, using Coz's regular mail option, the delivery time was 12 days from confirmation of order ... not bad. The bad news is that when organising gear for Sunday's Tech day/Plenum Pull, I found that I already had two unused valve cover seals .... so now have a set for sale .. !!!!
Keep them as spares in case you need them down the line or if you sell the car they can be sold as spares too the new owner.
