Well, what's next in line? could be some of that crud got through and causing blockages in the injectors and regulator.

I have to wonder what the condition of the fuel tank is - not rusty but maybe the fuel is contaminated.

Code 13 is not fluid level, it's indicative of a sensor fault. Suggest you consult the FSM for the relevant diagnostic procedure. Continuing on a path of diagnosis by elimination is expensive and time consuming.

    Is it Fuel or Spark?

i have read all posts so far and I cannot see if you have ascertained whether it is a fuel or spark issue. i suggest some diagnosis when the car develops the "no or difficult start situation".

i would suggest a pressure gauge inline for a start to see if fuel pressure is an issue when fault occurs.

if fuel pressure proves OK then a check of the Injector signal using a Noid light would be the next test. This would rule out CAS and ECU as a possible cause.

Failing fuel or injector signal as a cause then a check for spark with a short length of spark plug wire and a spark tester during fault.

Fault diagnosis will reveal the fault as already stated.

Its a fuel issue the car definitely has spark.

I have not been able to test the fuel pressure i don't have a gauge and neither did supercheap, autobarn, repco and bursons was closed by the time i got there.

After putting in the new fuel filter the car went from not starting at all to starting trying to idle then dying. My best guess is that the fuel pump has enough life in it to prime for start but cannot supply enough fuel to actually run.

I think i should have started a new thread since the initial issue of the car cutting out was resolved. 3 weeks later another issue came up which was the car not running at all (has not run for a week now) that is what i am currently trying to fix. Sorry about any confusion i will try to be a bit more clear about things from here on out.

Not a problem. No need to feel bad.

We are always learning. We are only assisting each other. We were all cluless once. It takes experience and getting it wrong sometimes before we get it right.

Understanding how things should work helps track down faults when they happen and intermittent ones are the most difficult. it took me 6 months to track down a faulty electrical connector on a Diesel Gemini i had. it would not start intermittently. When i went to check things it would miraculously start until, with the help of a friend I found the connector causing the fault.

    Update:

Turns out the previous owner has changed the fuel pump but whoever did the wiring botched it. The solder points could come apart by barely pulling them and there was a lot of excess wire. So what was happening is when the tank was full and id go around a corner the petrol would move the wires causing the fuel pump to lose connection and cut out. Not to mention it not having a good solid connection at the best of times.

Got rid of all the excess wire made some proper connections and the car is running again:D:br:

Cheers everyone for all the help and have a good Christmas.
