So in the next few months i plan on throwing some money at my zed here is what i plan to do and some parts that i am thinking of getting. I am just after some opinions and suggestions. :)

    Sound System
    Sub: 10" Kicker CWS104 300watt RMS @ 4ohm
    Amp: Pioneer GM-D8604 100watt RMS @ 4ohm and 300watt RMS @ 4ohm (Bridged)
    Doors: Kicker CSS65 6.5" 100watt RMS @ 4ohms
    Rear:Undecided.

Price tag for the above is just under $700. Amp i think I'll be putting behind the passenger seat. Not sure about where to put the sub I'm thinking somehow in the center behind the seats as its bare metal there at the moment (Like that when i bought it) and i am not a fan of a single sub in 1 of the boot corners would make my OCD act up lol.

    Exhaust System
2.5" Catback (For now) been on youtube having a listen to see what i like these 3 stand out for me. Not all of them are just catbacks but it is something i can work towards.

    AMS

    SZ

Magnaflow (Pretty sure this a forum members)

    Body
Seriously thinking of jumping on the TwinZ group buy/pre order and getting the bolt on diffuser and the type 2 nose panel if it is still going.

Thats about it for now here are some pics of my Zed so you can see what i am working with. Cheers for reading:)

Your priorities are incorrect, clean out your garage first!

As far as the exhausts, the sound of an exhaust system will vary between cars, also it is difficult to gauge what the actual sound is like when the videos are filmed inside garages of different sizes which will affect acoustics.

A SZ exhaust won't be cheap at todays exchange rates.

Most people change sound system components because they want to improve the sound quality, the sound quality will ultimately depend on the speakers.
So the better the speakers the better the sound reproduced.
If you like your music loud & want to draw attention to yourself, the sound quality may not be the overriding factor.
Loud sound in a confined space like the interior of a car, will have an effect on your hearing, that is the ability to differentiate different sounds will be diminished & over time your hearing will be damaged, so you won't hear clearly anyway.

If you have a good quality sound system, why is the exhaust note important?

If you drive down the street listening to the sound of the exhaust, why is a sound system important?

Re the TwinZ stuff the order has shipped already from Peru but I have ordered extras (stock for my business) of the items that you mentioned. If you are happy to put 50% down as a deposit I will reserve them for you

Re exhaust I sell magnaflow mufflers @ www.rgsperformance.com -they are all stainless steel and have lifetime warranty and fit & sound amazing. Any competent exhaust shop can do the pipe work for you.

Can't comment on the stereo stuff, not my cuppa tea.

As for the exhaust, don't bother with off the shelf stuff from the US. Expensive due to exchange rate and you'll pay a fortune to ship it. Get some magnaflow mufflers off Rob or whoever and get a local shop to weld it up. Mild steel stuff is fine and will outlast your ownership.

For the body, get your rad support realigned, front bumper welded and sprayed and a front lip if you get excited. I'd paint the bonnet red too, but that's just me. Also looks like it needs a proper polish and wax. Paying a professional for this isn't a bad idea as long as they are good.

I enjoy my music loud it's not about drawing attention to myself but that sort of comes with the territory. I am well aware of the detrimental effect it can have on my hearing i have been to concerts where my ears have been ringing 2 days later but that does not stop me from going. :p

Thanks for the link i had a look but could not find a dual tip with a 2.5" inlet. Is that something you can get in? My plan is to go 2.5" all the way with maybe 3" dumps.

I read these forums a lot so i know you wont steer me wrong but what makes you say the rad support needs to be realigned?

I have a mate who is a spray painter in a panel shop he has offered to do a full respray for me at mates rates so when the time comes i will probably get a new front bar, side skirts etc then. Oh and the bonnet is red it just has a carbon fiber wrap on it i was going to take it off when i bought the car but im worried it was to cover up shit paint so its staying on until the respray.

You can see how the bonnet and the nose panel and headlights don't line up. Normally the rad support.

All of the twin tip mufflers are 2.25" inlet -this won't be a problem on a 2.5" exhaust

Yeah i noticed lol its a good thing tho this is my first real project car and i can use all the guidance i can get.

Ok thanks in that case you can probably expect an order from me some time after new years im leaning towards this one at the moment.

sub should be pretty good, I have one of the compVT units and it gives pretty good fill at the low end although it definitely isn't going to knock any socks off. Fit really nicely in the 2+0 parcel shelf too.

I would consider amping the front speakers rather than putting much money into the rears, not going to get good sound quality bouncing it off the hatch glass anyway.

Yeah that is my plan amp the front speakers and bridge the other 2 to power the sub might just get some 4X6s and run them off the head unit just to fill the sound gap in the back.

Any chance you could post some pics of your sub box/how its mounted on the parcel shelf?

Could be the bonnet hinge is badly positioned but the rad support alignment is most likely the problem as Chrispy points out (you can pull it back with a jack -see relevant posts)

Check out the Magnaflow 14816 's on a Z (or check my sig pic) - Chrispy put me onto these and I haven't looked back since.....They do sound awesome with the sharp crack and very deep rumble

Presentation isn't high on my list of priorities but here you go.

You might notice it's not actually hooked up, disconnected the amp when I was messing around with the interior and noticed the previous owner's wiring, haven't bothered putting it back in yet so this is just throwing the sub in. Nice and snug with that strut bar, never moved and didn't have any screws or straps or anything, means I have to take it out for track days though.
Sub is compvt 12" in slimline box, not sure if they still sell this one or it was replaced by the one you're looking at.

I'll definitely look into it maybe they took the bonnet off to do the carbon fiber wrap and messed something up.

Cheers for the pics that does look like it fits nicely in there. Now i just have to get a parcel shelf or get a custom box made up mines bare metal at the moment previous owner took either his amp/sub mount out before he put it up for sale. :(

should be heaps of cheap interiors around, unless you want something in mint condition just keep an eye out for people wrecking cars in your area.

No disrespect to you, this site or any of its members (I regularly audit but rarely comment on this site).......

What's the difference between love and tinnitus (herpes) ?

    Tinnitus lasts forever.

Have friends who have been "retired" because of this condition; I have a touch myself.....

All power to you and Z things, but look after your senses, we all grow old...

I'm sounding morbid, I know. Long live the Z.

Great advice....Respect Tinnitus. It can ruin your life

As to what to do on the car....
Change to 2000 tail lights & side indicators to clear. This alone, really updates the Z.
No need to change the centre rear panel to the 2000 spec. The rear will look good with the std panel. IMO.
Also, if your steering wheel is scuffed everywhere, get it re-trimmed in leather again. It will look and feel awesome!
It's the little touches that make a HUGE difference.
Also, new parts make a HUGE aesthetic difference.

You're not wrong but that sound system is actually pretty modest, and a good quality well balanced system can generally be enjoyed at lower volumes than a basic set up.

I'll vouch for that. Replaced all the 24+ year old bose-sutff in my Zed earlier this year. Nothing ultra-expensive, fusion MP3 headunit (no CD), fusion 6x9's in the doors which required a little gentle surgery on the trims, 6" in the rear to round it out, and then a small amp plus underseat subwoofer screwed to the panel behind the drivers seat. Which means, I still get a full boot (thanks again for the parts, Tom). Result, an enjoyable balanced sound I can listen to for the drive from Canberra to Melb, without destroying my ears.

The major issue was pulling enough panels off the car to get to all the wiring.
