N Power ebay "600HP" turbo kit

    I know most members of the forum will scoff at this kit, and I'm also aware you get what you pay for but has anyone actually used this kit or these turbos?

    The chinese ebay style turbos are of much better quality these days generally, (mamba, kinugawa, etc) but I'm interested to know how these stack up in terms of power production, response and longevity or general shitness.

    Also interested in any value for money alternatives that may exist around the same price point.

    Broad in the US ran them. Blew them out pretty quick. Not worth it when the motor has to come out to change them. Search Melissa Drifts Godspeed turbos.

    What's your power target? I'd prefer to put 600hp (flywheel) through stockies with new cores and E85 than try my luck with those ones. Although kinugawa brought some high quality modern parts to 'eBay turbos' the ones you've linked are still old style journal bearing.

    With the current Australian dollar if you want to upsize a little I'd probably talk to hypergear about a small high-flow in the stockies. Pretty hard to get anywhere with decent turbos for under $2k, there's the T28+fitting kit option but that's only cheap as the turbos are 15-20 years old, still over $1k each for new ones.

    Poor quality but cheap option for HP.........decisions........

    Knowing the crap factor of N-Power products.....its too scary to think about

    Anti is right here......the fact you have to remove the motor means these are not really an option....for even a tight fisted budget

    Fists also make a valid point (and at least your still with quality components)

    It would be different in a car where you can access them quickly - you could afford to take the big gamble and hope you got a set that lasts.




    Geez these guys make some sh.t products though....so....scoff...scoff...scoff (What else could you expect from the majority)

    Pretty much what I figured but you never know until you ask! I would have thought if they were great I'd have heard a lot more about them by now but I've been away from anything zed related for 6 months or so now.

    600fwhp would be plenty. I was aiming for 400-450rwhp at the end of the day and E85 really seems to work wonders with the old VG. I'll still be upgrading the dumps, test pipes, inlet and cooler piping to pump as much air through as possible but if the stock units will get me there without a knife edge do or die tune then I am happy with that.

    Specs on turbos suggest they won't actually make 600hp...

    I think on 98 the stock turbos tend to tap out at ~360rwhp, there's a thread here somewhere from a UAS dyno day a year or two (or three?) back and I think 250-270kw were the best with standard turbos but other basic mods. 400hp should be a pushover with some juice plus you get all that bonus torque down low, you might want some stronger or adjustable wastegate springs though.

    The stock turbos will choke up late in the revs but unless you're circuit or drag racing you'll probably just enjoy the quick spool. If one of my stockies hadn't seized I would probably regret upgrading turbos instead of going E85.

    considering when those blow you have to then buy decent qualty turbos you are 1000 out of pocket not to mention time !! also your going to pay for dyno time to tune ... all in all turbos arnt that expensive . you could buy second hand flogged units and get them rebuilt ..

    I was watching a guy last night run consistent 9.6 on China turbos. If you buy them they probably will work BUT not as good as genuine and no were near as long as a good Garrett. You WILL be pulling your engine. But if your happy to do that go ahead. Personally if your gonna cheap out. Go with the mamba of Kinugawa. They have great castings and good results. You will have to fab lots of stuff to make them fit though

    in any other car when you can rip the turbo off in 20 mins give it a go .. for engine out it just isnt worth it

    They are rated at 300hp each.

    Speak to the supplier and ask if they have a 360deg thrust bearing.
    If yes, I don't see why they would be not good.

    I rebuilt my turbos a few yrs ago using rebuilt kits sourced from ebay and I am sure they are probably all made in China. They came with 360deg. trust bearing and some of the internals looked more solid than what was already there originally. I think turbos have been around long enough now for the Chinese to have pretty much perfected them.
    Also, I deal with Chinese suppliers everyday. They are proud of their stuff and very keen on quality and to please the customer.

    I would speak to the supplier and see how many they have sold and what experience they had with these.
    If it all sounds +ve, then go for it. If it sounds sus then as Shane already said, get some stockies and high flow them with T28 turbines on the intake and happy days! Put in a new rebuilt kit with 360deg thrust bearing and a 'step seal' on the exhaust side and enjoy till pretty much your next engine rebuild. Source the 'step seals' from US. They are not 50c.

    Look. Where exactly does the vast majority get their "rubbish" tag from so easily bandied about.

    Exactly how many of you dudes, freely rubbising these items have actually USED these turbos and parts AND had catastrophic failures that are freely bandied about by the doomsday soothsayers AND have subjective tresting data showing how inneficient they allegedly are then hmmm..???

    Now, im sure each and every one of you has some mate of a brothers whos girlfriends cousin had on that shat itself. Ilistened to the same horseshite years ago when i bought my first Ducati bike with a legion of Jap bike riders, almost universally had a mate who spent more time pushing his Duke or riding with no lights because the "eletrics are shit"....yada yada yada.
    neither mine, nor anyone else I knew with older Dukes had such trouble...........

    Think about it just for a minute and ponder the reason why you hear of more numerous failures over the beloved old Garret.
    Statistics often dont tell the full story. These turbos are sold by the dozens in comparison to a single "genuine" Garret. This is born out by the legion of brand names selling cheap turbos ad nauseum.
    If there wasnt a vigorous market, they wouldnt bother with them if they had such a bad reputation. Thats just plain bad business. Furthermore, cheap assed turbos makes it worthwhile to simply toss the thing out when it begins to smoke. They all do in the end no matter what the brand.

    The actual number of individual failures appears at first glance to be anecdotally high but in percentage of turbos sold terms, Id stick my neck out and say they dont fail any more often that the allegedly "real" turbos.

    There is a stupid statistic that screams out that the vast majority of accidents happen within *blah*K's from home...... Gee, thats a beauty. Itd be fair to say that the similar, in percentage terms of driving is DONE the same number of K's from home so the statistic appears nasty but in fact its perfectly reasonable to expect additional accidents close to home!

    Turbochargers, in fact any kind of centrifugal compressors are simply not new science. and even if the Chinese choose to copy older design technology, the turbos are no more prone to exploding than anything else mass produced.

    I ran a Chinese T66 on my VG for a long time and its still being used on a drift/slider to this day.

    Show me, beyond reasonable doubt, that Chinese build quality of turbochargers are substantially less than a Garret and lead to almost certain early failures so often blow about here........
    Ill bet very few, if any of you actually have hands on experience with them.

    A turbocharger isn't the most complicated item.

    The T70's I saw coming from China were so much better then the cast in Mexico Garrett.

    Chinese stuff is not always super bad quality... not now.

    Quality aside those turbos are too small to make 600hp, which presume is something the OP has in mind when shopping for "600hp turbos"?

    Compressor side is definitely weird, looks like a GT2259 (diesel turbo) equivalent although they don't actually list what size the turbine wheel is. Based on the GT2259 map the compressor should at least touch 600hp at the crank before something explodes, god knows what power the exhaust side suits.
