Ok so Im not to bad with the mechanical side of things but wiring does my ****in head in so if i was to extend my wiring loom to run them differently is it just as simple as doing one wire at a time from ECU plug to wherever the other end is? (Injector plug, TPS, ect)

That's about all there is to it.

    Not quite.....

A lot of wires are 'tapped into' by another source within the harness (generally for power or ground) so you have to ensure you don't make anything 'open circuit' when you replace any wiring

Doesn't the ECU read resistance from some sensors? Would adding a join to the wire affect this?

No. A good extension/replacement won't have any tangible difference. Wires used in cars aren't long enough for this to be a factor.

I actually have a question about rewiring. When I did mine I ended up with a whole bunch of earth wires previously distributed all over the front end coming out from the passenger footwell. I condensed them into a terminal box which then connected to the chassis with a single 0 gauge cable.

So long as it has been done reliably, is there any issue condensing previously spread out earths?

Make sure you get good quality wire with a heat rating of 100 deg c or better
The factory engine wiring on my 89 TT showed signs or corrosion of the copper wire 100mm back from the terminals (replacing PTU) - When I asked our electrical engineer he said the plastic outer cover is breaking down - I said more information - he said when it breaks down it lets air into the copper wire this is why it is discoloured
Military spec wire is 140 deg c if you want to go all out

Earth wires should be as short as possible.

A wire IS a resistor. So tangible difference... probably not. Theoretically, yes, there will be an increase in resistance the longer the added wiring is. It's likely outside of the accuracy of our multimeter for the average punter.

There is some conjecture as to where the earth should be. On face value the chassis / frame / vehicle body is a HUGE conductor, and many times larger than even a 0 AWG cable. Where issues can be encountered (and probably a non issue in the 300zx) is the interference with ssensitive electronics such as ecu's etc. But this is mainly with large current draws from what I understand.

Seven angry penguins here is a sparky/electronic engineer, I forget which. When I put up my original pics of battery layout I ran an earth cable directly to the front to the terminal box pictured, thinking it would get a better connection. He said don't bother, just earth front to chassis and same as back.

Take from that what you will. It's not a TVR.
