Hi All, please excuse me if this all sounds dumb, but I will give a few details so as to 'pain a picture' 1. 93 NA Aus 300zx 165K, always ran beaut untill injector(passenger side rear)under balance tube went bad. Car sat for 6 months untill we pulled the plenum and I sent the Jecs to Pennyarves for a service - great job. 2. we replaced injector connectors and coil pack connectors. 3. We did a water bypass. Replaced fuel hose's and filter 4. We put the plenum back last w/end and triple checked everything 5. It started up brilliantly, like instant...idle was 1100rpm then after 3-4 mins it settled at 1000rpm. 6. The engine idle behavior was not quite right, nothing like the bad injector pre 'pull' but just sounded not quite 'in tune' 7. we gave it a few mild revs and found that white smoke was coming out the exhaust and I mean WHITE! it also had a weird smell. I became very depressed, but pulled myself up after a day or so and am hoping it may be bad fuel. It has been sat a while. * there is no indication of water in the oil, and as far as I can see it is not loosing coolant. I am nervous about running the engine and doing more harm than good. any chance you got the O2 and coilpack connectors mixed up? I did that when I put mine together the other day and was pumping a petrol fog out the back.
Did you pull the bonnet off? If so you could have accidentally hooked up the windscreen washer squirter hose to the balance tube and is sucking water into the manifold.

Cleary it is water feeding into the cylinders then... Your right to be wary as the danger of water entering into the cylinders over a period of time incurs the hardening/ quenching process of the rings (disaster) Did you get it to operating temperature to ensure it is more than condensation related?? Condensation build up can sometimes make it look like you have blown a head gasket - especially after sitting for a while in parts - lol - so you need to confirm this by warming the engine up to temp at least once. Water in your fuel lines often makes engines splutter a lot (or stop altogether if it is a lot) as opposed to seeping in slowly giving off white smoke - this is because water is insoluble to fuel and so it tends to clump together rather than blend in, so it is doubtful that it is water in the fuel............... Unlikely to be a head gasket as 90% of the time you will get the bubbles in the radiator....... The only thing in common to the plenum pull is the wiper hose/ balance as suggested and the under plenum coolant delete/s. Another common occurring of increased white smoke is when any of the PCV hoses are leaking or not connected (or even when one of the PCV valves is not working and it forces backpressure into the remainder of the PCV system) - check to make sure these are sealed properly and both working properly Check the plenum is secure to the gasket and lower plenum area as well, (no gaps anywhere) and also check around the Air Regulator areas to ensure those hoses are connected properly - they are not as likely to cause white smoke as the PCV hoses, but its still possible with leaking. What size is your exhaust? Bigger they are they harder they fog. I took the murci down to visit my folks in Bowral, sub 10 degrees, even in the garage. Anyway in the morning firing it up literally fogged out the entire driveway.
exactly, thats why i brought it up. very easy for car that hasnt been started for a while to steam away for 10 minutes or so before clearing.
have to say I never noticed it but a cold morning here is 5deg so that may have something to do with it
You can quickly eliminate any PCV / FICD/ Regulator issues by pinch testing at each section (as per the manual) - this will also tell you if a PCV is stuck.
Probably because this was the first time you've started it after getting elbows deep into the motor. You're potentially looking for problems.
LOL had my elbows deep in there plenty of times..... but the opnly time I got excessive condensation was when I hooked up the washer hose to the manifold....... and oil smoke when the turbo seals have gone - different altogether there
