Obviously it wouldn't be the most cost effective choice. But the US has heaps and heaps of interior and exterior colour options that are really unique. The red velour interior looks really cool, especially if it were on a black or gold zed. Lots of cool blue and green colours to choose from as well. From the little research I've done, based upon the cars age, it should not be an issue to import, however importing can have some funny rules. Anyone have any knowledge they care to share?
hard firstly its all LHD so if you want to transplant into a RHD would be near on impossible. If you want to import a LHD car and drive it, you cant, cant remember the exact year buts to use LHD car on the roads here gotta be from the 60's or 70's, to get it in the country you need an import permit and a LHD that young off the top of my head would only qualify for race purposes which means you need a CAMS licence in order to apply to import and never drive it on the road
NONE of those American interior colours are nice IMO. Nevermind the fact they're all LHD and useless over here. Do you really want a light coloured interior worn to shit? The tan which gets dirty and looks like old socks the red which looks like the inside of an abbittoir need I mention the poo brown?
It'll be subject to the same rules as a Z32 imported from Japan, but with the added requirement that you'll need to convert it to RHD. Save your money.
LHD isn't an issue. A LHD car of 25+ years can be driven on Victorian roads as long as its on club rego. Not worried about that. More curious about the import restrictions.
surely it would be much less of a hassle and a lot less costly to just pay someone to trim it as close to the oem colours as possible?
Yep as Jinxed said those colours are available for right hand drive cars, a few of the guys and gals have good words about these guys in the States http://www.interior-innovations.com/
I am familiar with interior innovations. Excellent option. When I pick up a TT, I'll likely head down this route. However all the dash and door panels, unless wrapped in leather, will remain factory black. That caramel brown pic I posted would be my absolute favorite. If I could get a zed with that interior, i'd be stoked. I know I can get some of the trim from czp to go down brown town, but its so much work. While I was over in the states, I saw heaps of zeds for sale in excellent condition for about 5k. I imagine after all the import hoops, just a loose uneducated guess would be a 15k investment (if its possible at all). I'm good with that price to get the zed I want.
A lot of money for something you can't drive unless it's on the track, yes you can strip it for parts , but once again becomes expensive for that. Best solution would be when you are over in the States is to maybe, find a car with the colours you want and strip it out over there and ship want you want back here.
Just buy a local zed and retrim it in the colour of your choice. That way you end up with a brand new interior, and probably cost a lot less than importing a secondhand one from the USA. and the steering wheel will be on the correct side, which will be easier to resell at a later date. Stu
Didn't have to look hard to find those dirty photos, takes more effort to find clean ones. Maybe when it's new it looks exotic, how many do you suppose still look like that? If you like the '80s and coke white interiors, do it properly and get a C4 corvette convertible with a white interior.
The most sensible advice so far. The U.S. dollar and costs are just too prohibitive to even think about it. :zlove:
