Are all fuel hoses created equal ?? I Currently have that distinct eu de cologne al la benzine in the cabin again the culprit being short fuel line under the reg seeping Last batch was GOSS and had fuel injection stamped on it. But doesn't seem to be that long since I redid them all hence the question. Many thanks in advance for recomendations and words of wisdom
as long as its efi hose then all should be ok with the hoses integrity (unless e85 is being used) if you have just recently changed your hoes, then its worth goingback over your hose clamps that were moved or replaced, as thats more than likely the culprit of the fuel smell.
Jinxed is right........ Chances are you need to give the clamps an extra tighten as the new hoses settle in.
Given the trouble I have had with the same problem, I always now use both a T-clamp and a spring clamp on the outer side and make sure the T- clamp can be adjusted by turning it almost so its vertical on all fuel ends (to get a screwdriver in there). The spring clamp is my safety clamp as it keeps tightening as its settles. Some might say its overkill, but given the trouble in the past and the potential disaster with fuel leaking onto the plenum, I like to know its as fire-safe as much as possible. An extra few $$ for piece of mind ! A really bad place to get a leak is on top of a hot engine! :zlove: Safety first - no Z is worth your life! :zlove:
i do a similar thing on hoses i dont trust, using a clamp and a cable tie just to put a bit of extra pressure on the hose.
If you have proper fuel hose t bolt clamps are overkill . Almost all factory efi cars run double tension spring clamps these are a ton easier to deal with than conventional clamps and apply even clamp force over hose. I converted to spring clamps on mine much easier to work with and better to deal compared with a worm drive or t bolt that can vibrate loose
I generally try to avoid "Hoes I don't trust"(the thought of administering some form of punishment, such as applying Cable Ties to some part of their anatomy seems risky to say the very least, regardless of the amount of enjoyment you may experience at the time.:rofl::br:
Interesting thread... The relevant standard for the fuel hose is SAE30R9. The correct size is 5/16" ID (8mm). Personally I prefer Dayco hose these days as it fits well with the oem clamps and looks and feels amazing. It is also made in the USA and meets the requisite standards. Use your factory clamps, slide them up just behind the bead, and do them up tight. You shouldn't have any leaks.
Repco (In Victoria at least) sell the Gates Barricade fuel hose in 5/16" - I purchased 3m today from their store in Burwood at $20 per meter - cheaper then it was on ebay!
I like to use a fuel line with a stainless steel braid covering the outside for protection from damage.
