    Hi Guys,

Been struggling for few weeks now electrical problems with headlights.
    It started randomly.
Just one day when turned headlights into 2nd position driver side headlight(DS) did not turn on, passenger side (PS) worked correctly, both high beams turned on also at the same time with low beams and they were working with very low electrical power (very red).
When i turn on high beams from dimm switch then RS wont turn on and PS turns on, PS low beam still keeps working, DS is still off.
I have checked all fuses, they are good, I have switched headlight relays results are same. I bought new dimmer relay - no change. I have figured out that in RS headlight relay socket there is no ground.
There is 4 wires going into that socket, 2 grounds and 2 +. 1 ground is going to the DS headlight, but I don't know where 2nd ground is coming(going) from. That ground should give ground to 1'st ground what's going into headlight.

If anyone has any experience and can help or has any suggestions then please let me know. It would be much appreciated.

    Regards,
    Tom

Do you have HID low beam lights fitted?

If not, the low beam lights should not be illuminated when the high beam is activated.
When the high beam switch is activated it should switch the earth from the low beam to the high beam [at the relay].

    It could be:
    A dud globe.
    No +12VDC at the globe.
    Defective or bodgied earth wiring.

    I have 2000spec headlights.
I have checked beams, both are in good order.
What's mystery for me is how it worked good one night and next day I have big * happening.

    Thanks.

    Don't you think....

...it was worth mentioning the "2000 spec headlights" part of it?

I did a write up on wiring these sometime ago, use the "SEARCH" function & see if you can find it, perhaps it may assist with your fault finding.

I have tracked down the problem, so this is for future similar problems.
First, there is online 300zx manual, open electrical part. Page 40 is headlight electrical drawings (few different types, choose correct one).
Learn how wires run, wires what run to the fuse(from battery to relay box in engine bay, 2 x 15amp) are positive, wires what run around system are ground. Page 41 you will see my electrical drawing, you see that from both headlight relays ground runs to the headlight and also to passenger side foot well. Basically from there your engine compartment light wiring loom starts, connector E112. To understand better look drawing at the end of manual page 126( for RHD models). My problem was in E112 connector, it was heavily corroded ( very strange as it's in very isolated place). 2 wires were corroded of from terminals (one of them was ground to the R-headlight relay). Nothing else seems to be corroded in car electrical, just this connector.
I'm wondering where can i buy new metal terminals into that connector, they are really small compared whats for sale in car shops?

    Regards,
    Tom

Do Aussie cars have DRL's? (Daytime running lights)

My car was originally sold in Canada, which in 94 had a rule that cars had to have passive DRL's, and it did the same thing a couple years ago. There is a relay in the passenger fender well that is the DRL relay if that helps.

It's not a rule in Aussie, so there is no relay.
But good info, there is many different versions out there, I think I have the easiest.
