God ***mit i accidentally Brought Another Zed

    Well yes As the tittle suggest i brought another zed, not only did i do that but i sold my 1971 Chrysler Valiant for the space. Anyhow its running like a pig but has $6000 in receipts over the last 5 years and has had everything from AFM to heads and pistons replaced, the full service history seems almost too full it seems like every 6 months it was having some sort of major issue but every time on every receipt the same symptoms Running rough Down on power Using Fuel Blowing smoke, the thing is running that rich that for me to pick it up a 600km trip cost me $400 in fuel you could actually watch the gauge fall, i have tried what i can but i have no parts to test with or even a rough idea where to start so and help would be welcomed 1985 Z31 N/A 5 Speed

    Get it to someone who has a diagnostic equipment for the Z31. I would suggest that that temperature sensor is no getting a signal to the ECU and ECU thinks it is running cold and adding extra fuel. Unfortunately this sensor sits down in the Vee behind the timing belt and under the manifolds.
    I have some Z31 parts from an 1985 N/A Manual if that is any use to you

    yes I thought CHTS at first but it was replaced February this year i did a self diagnostic on the ecu (rather primitive ecu) and got a 12 (MAP SENSOR), 13 (COOLANT TEMP SENSOR), 21 (NO IGNITION REFERENCE PULSE) ? this one has got me thinking Also got a code 31 (ENGINE CONTROL UNIT) And 41 (Air Temp Sensor) but it has not been reset and people have been poking around so i will disconnect the battery for a few hours and try again, I brought it knowing i would have to put money in to it (it is a zed ofcorse) but if i can atleast get it running right or close to it it will save it from going in to a shop only to have them check and replace what has already been done, What z31 parts have you got handy ?

    Well Ive rang Almost every mechanic in town most gave the same answer if you bring it in i will set fire to it they are the reason i have grey hair, the rest laughed and hung up, Soo looks like im on my own with this one, ive orderd a new CHTS and it should get here tomorrow And ive send messages to a few people who might have parts local but i havnt got high hopes , i have done a compression test and it was bang on on all 6 exactly what you would expect for something that was recently honed, new rings and a new set of heads and valves (2012) Anyone around rocky willing to give us a hand in return for a cold beer (and or cash)

    There's no mechanics in town that can deal with a zed unfortunately mate. Only maybe Kaos or Dynamix but they'll charge ya an arm and a leg for any work done. I just took mine down to Karl (90ttz) in brissy to get a rebuild done and f*ken glad I did. I'm willing to help out if u need a hand but I don't really know much. I'm sure ryan will come help out too have u contacted him?

    You originally had posted into Z32 Technical, and this is obviously a Z31 question, so it had to be moved. If we had a lot of Z31 technical questions, then we could start up a Z31 Technical section, but for the time being, this is the way it is.

    Yes but be the sound of it being a 31 he is just as lost as i am..... even kaos and insane performance dont want it there at all its not a matter of cost they literally dont want the vehicle there .... bit lazy if you ask me

    You shouldn't feel alone in this. We often hear about workshops that either turn us away or price themselves way too high in the hope we don't want to continue.

    As a previous zed owner, I'm pretty sure you will have experienced it. It's not right, but it's just the way things are.

    check that the tps is working and set correctly. Check the wiring continuity between the plug and the ecu for this and the chts. If the chtc is the culprit it will make it run ritch and possibly hard to start also. Check the bushes in the distributor as they can wear causing timing to be out but not always show up with a timing light. As for the crank angle sensor showing a fault, don't worry about that as it obviously runs. There is also a trim pot that could be out of adjustment on the maf. This will richen or lean the entire rev and load range. my first thought is there are a couple of little things that are wrong and making it hard to pinpoint for someone not familiar with zeds and compounding the issue. If all of this checks out, after the car has been running and warm remove the spark pugs and check that they aren't wet. could be injectors aren't sealing. not so likely for this last one but cant hurt to check. Z31's are great when running well.

    Have you double checked the firing order? Sounds like you have swapped the leads round so its running on 4 - but igniting some mixture with the exhaust valve open.....
