Ok so I am going to have a crack at this on the weekend. I bought a subframe off Tekky which has the bushings already taken out (what a relief). Ppl say its a C*&T of a job however I am wondering is this just due to removal of the bushings that makes it a pain? With the bushings removed and new ones ready to pop in how straight forward should it be and what sort of time could I be looking at with 2 ppl. Also I want to replace the diff bushings at the same time, these are still obviously in. How hard/easy are they to get out? any advice on this. Thanks in advance gents Christian
You'll be fine, just need a big breaker bar to get the main bolts out. Make sure there in good condition and torque them up to correct spec.
I took them out with a super cheap Press, drill, wire wheel, hammer chisel etc. Can be done, does take hours, sub frame is very heavy
Did mine with the subframe in the car - was a bastard job, but I reckon it would be easy with the subframe on the ground as you get could a decent swing with a hammer to knock the sleeves out....
Before you go knocking sleeves out make sure they don't have to be reused for the new bushes. The energy suspension ones need it. Otherwise your subframe may remove itself from the chassis. Happened to mine after a workshop did it. Last time I used anyone until Eric came along.
Drilled mine out with a el-cheapo bunnings hole saw. Then tapped the shells out with an appropriately sized socket. Rebuild link: http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=302197&highlight=subframe+rebuild
I noticed a huge difference in interior noise! Its now very noisy in car with the solid diff and subframe bushes fitted, not something you would want on a daily driven car. Handling wise it is a bit more direct than it was before which makes it nice on a really smooth road but it does dart around a bit more on most suburban streets.
