So I'm having a problem, where occasionally my throttle will fail, air will still be taken in, shown through boost gauge, although no ignition will come from it.

So putting my foot down will result in nothing happening, as the air is increased Im assuming it's a fuel based problem.
Has anyone had this problem/have an idea of what causes it?

    Cheers,
    Kyle

Probably an idiot mistake, do not judge. :)

Your gaining boost with no spark? ummmmm:confused:

No boost, because theres no ignition, but the pressure will even out when I put my foot down, no extra pressure above 0psi,

Do you even own a car?
Nothing you have posted makes the slightest bit of sense. Boost Gauges DO NOT show BOOST readings on engines that are NOT RUNNING.

As Chili says this does not make sense. if the engine is not running the boost pressure reads atmospheric pressure, on most gauges that means zero. Please give us more information to allow the gurus on this forum to help you.

BLEGH I didnt say not running, although i wasn't clear, When I mentioned no ignition, I meant successive ignition upon putting my foot down, its as if the extra air being taken in is going completely unnoticed.

The car is running, say 5th gear 80 2krpm, occasionally any attempted acceleration with provide nothing, so If I put my foot down it will not accelerate.
What I meant with the boost gauge comment is, the vac pressure is evened when I hit the throttle, therefore air is taken in, although it's as if no fuel is being ignited with it(hence my 'no ignition' comment, sorry for confusion was tired.) Thus leaving me at 2krpm with no acceleration.

Youve either got one of two problems. Your air flow meter isnt registering the intake air accurately, or your throttle position sensor is faulty. Again the stabbing of the throttle arent being metered correctly and there is a dead spot in your rev range.

I would start with checking your TPS static voltage. Then do a range test, with an ohm meter. Make sure its registering the full sweep.

Second to this is to check your AFM. Clean the hot wire with a quality electrical parts cleaner spray, and also check the terminals on the connectors. Make sure these are clean and free from corrosion.

As for your boost gauge, is it the factory one youre looking at or and aftermarket one?

An easier way to explain this is "Foot down, got nothing"

I kinda think your trying to say you are boosting enough to make your vacuum boost meter read 0. Not even safety boost is that low right?

    Something's farked for sure.

PTU- does your CAT temp sensor warning light come on? (A rectangular light with a few squiggly lines rising from the top). Only happen when the engine is hot? Only applies if the sensors haven't been damaged or removed in the past.

Was it you who inherited the car, and its been sitting idle for some years?
At the least, get the car on datascan or an ecutalk, check function on CTS (Coolant temp sensor), TPS (throttle position sensor) 0.42V-0.46V on idle and a smooth increase in voltage up to 5V at WOT (Wide Open /Full Throttle), check/ replace all connectors (injectors, AFM, Coilpacks, PTU.....) Plenum pull and cooolant deletes. Replace all engine bay fuel hoses, coolant hoses and fuel filter and a full 200km service.

Budget for 1500-2000, and do some research on 200km service before committing, as you might want to go with extra deletes (EGR, PRVR, AIV's) or extra seal replacement ( intake cam covers, exhaust cover 1/2 moon seals and cover sealant)

Most importantly, relax and have fun- you've a long road of money, blood, learning new swear words (and combining those you already know for extra affect)...... But its worth it in the end, or so they say :)

Aftermarket Boost gauge, but yes that's what is happening!
I will try what you have suggested.

    Cheers man!
Hopefully I dont have to do anything significant right now but thanks aha

None of that is anything significant..... just simple required maintenance

I don't have a day to change hoses or 1500 to spend while Im planning for Uni next year.
    :(
So that is significant in my circumstances

This is NOT intended as an insult/slur, but perhaps a 300ZX is not the right car for you(and your current circumstances).
    It's the same reasoning for why I can't have an F-Type Jaguar.:mad::br:

    No it doesnt :)
The problem was the TPS, All fixed now.
    Thanks for your help guys
