    Hi,

I have a slight situation. I bought a bissab 300zx 1989 Jap from my mate. I lost the only key i had for the ignition. I do not have a spare key , and was wondering what should i do?? i called Nissan and they started asking me key code number which i have no idea about. i called the automotive locksmith and was told it would cost between $140-$200 for them to come over and make a new key.

Can anyone help, is it possible if i can use another z32 key to make a copy or something ? if yes can anyone help ??

I googled and found the forums and would really appreciate anyones help please.

    Cheers

    Alca

Unlikely that you can use another Z32 key to make another copy as it would defeat the purpose of having a key and the key code!

But where in NSW are you located?

Locksmith is a good idea if they can make another copy.

You can also get another brand new lock set if you want to use only 1 key to access and start your car.

Else you can get a used cylinder lock for the ignition, but then you can only access the car with the remote, which is quite troublesome if your battery died!

I might be able to help you get the car to the lock smith to get a key cut out, not sure whether it might help save some cost for you.
But I would need to verify that you are the actual owner of the car before I do so, so ID and rego papers is a must.

Mobile locksmith is the way to go.

They can come out and cut a key for you on the spot. Its not cheap, but its the best option.

You can also get another brand new lock set if you want to use only 1 key to access and start your car. i didnt get that sorry ??

I just had a chat with another local lock smith and he recon he can do it between 140-160 fair price ??

''You can also get another brand new lock set if you want to use only 1 key to access and start your car'' is a comparison with the option of getting a second hand lock cylinder.

But since you lost the key you won't have two keys anyway :p

Not sure about the price haven't use one yet, but check if it would be cheaper if you can bring the lock cylinder to the locksmith, and have him take his sweet time to cut one out if you are not in a hurry.

How did you open the door if the battery is dead and you have lost your key?

So approx 4 weeks back, i went for a drive. I went to the car wash shined my car and came back home. Now my car is parked in the garage, and i didnt lock my car because my garage door is secure. So i went out for a run and thats when i think i would have dropped the only key i had. Now my car doesnt have the immobilizer as its been taken out by my mate whom i got my car from. So it doesnt autolock, so here i am my car is still in my garage and i dont have the key to start it and yes it is unlocked. The other thing is i dont know how to take the lock cylinder out of my car :( i have been checking youtube but am scared if i do it it may cause another drama!!

    2 options main options..

    1. get a locksmith to cut you a new key for 140-200 because if you do this. you will not need to replace the ignition barrel, this is good because then the same key that was cut by the locksmith will open the hatch, drivers and passenger door, glove box and start your car..

    look at your other option..
    2. get a new ignition barrel $50, drill out your old ignition barrel which will require you to replace the bolts with new ones. attach your new ignition barrel.. live with the pain of always needing to open your door to open the hatch, and if your zed is like half of the zeds I've worked on, then you need someone to pull your leaver and someone else to open the hatch. otherwise add $20 for the drivers door, $20 for the passenger door, $10 for the boot and $10 for the glove box.

lets just say $100 for the full set if your lucky... then... (assuming you know what you are doing.)
-30 minutes to install the ignition barrel
-30 minutes to do drivers door
-30 minutes to do passenger door
-10 minutes to do hatch lock
-20 minutes to do glove box lock..

that's 2 hours of your time... and a lot of hair pulling.

trust me.. spend the $200 and get a key cut. then go to a key cutter and get them to cut you a spare for $5..

that's how i would be looking at your situation.

If you haven't locked the drivers door. You can undo the door liner and unbolt the door handle/lock.

The key code is stamped on the barrel of the lock

I have a feeling someone once posted that the key code is in the glove box area ( may be a sticker on the back of the glove box door ? ). Can any one confirm this.

Just about every aus spec I've owned has had that, can't ever recall seeing it in a j-spec though.
