Hey Guys, So I was driving home from work today when all of a sudden my car started having trouble reving over 3000rpm, it would then Rev between 0 and 1000rpm and stall every so often. I got home and have pulled the MAF sensor off, fair to say it is completely stuffed. Just wanting to know what other Nissan MAF will fit a 89 Z32? A photo for your enjoyment Thanks
Have tried that, same result. Just did a quick Youtube search a guy had the exact same problems as mine, changed the MAF and it fixed his issues. Just need to know if I'm able to use another MAF off any other Nissan's?
Just buy another z32 AFM. They are the highest flowing one nissan produced. Only about $100 for another one. or $300 brand new
Get a new one bud... Same goes for any sensor or electrical component of your Z32. It's too risky buying second hand as for all you know, the used one could be buffered too. Then you won't 100% know if that was your issue or not, as the issue will remain. Buy new=know its sorted. Buy second hand=be for ever chasing.
OK, Now its starting but stalls basically right away, could that be due to that fact that it has gone cold now, and the only reason it was staying on Idle was because the Motor was still warm when the problem started?
You should check your error codes, will likely point you in the right direction. Look in the tech section if you don't know how.
Start it up without the afm connected. If it runs fine with it disconnected but not with it connected then that would point to the afm. Note that with the afm disconnected it will have a 2500rpm rev limiter.
Get another AFM as the same issue happened to me. I even cleaned my old AFM and left it for a week but after running it 5-10 minute the car would just stall with it in. I tried this on two Z32s. Are you running a pod filter or the stock air box ? Stock or aftermarket front bar? Splash tray?
Unplugged the AFM tried to kick it over, nothing happened. Plugged it back in tried to kick it over, still not kicking over. So now I'm back to square one, the problem is, I have a really strong solid crank, just wont fire. I pulled a Code 13 from the ECU, but I have a feeling it may of been loggged because I pulled the connector off that sensor while the car was running. I pulled out 1 of the spark plugs and it was really black. Just checked I'm getting fuel to the line, but that still doesn't rule out Injectors or Fuel regulator. I'm thinking its more along the lines of spark at the moment.
Could you please post me a link to a page with all the error code numbers? I think I'm incline to agree with you on that one, considering they are a common thing to go. Is there any way of testing them without using a known good working one?
Yes, there is a procedure in the factory service manual. List of error codes and manual is in the tech section of this forum.
OK, I seem to be getting Continuity between a 1, b 2, c 3, d 4, e 5, f 6, while its on Reverse polarity, but not for any of the others.
Just checked the codes. That is definitely ignition, nearly always PTU. If the PTU doesn't test as per the FSM then it is rooted and very likely your problem. Best of changing to a S2.
