The plastic cover on the back of my steering rack is cracking and falling apart.
It's the round plastic collar where the steering column attaches via the knuckle, it stops dirst from getting into the oil seal on the shaft.
Wouldn't be a problem because i'm pulling that rack out. Problem is, the one i'm putting in has the same issue.
i guess they're cracking up from the TT's exhaust heat.
Looks like it must be common, so has anyone else had to replace one ?
Are they available from Nissan Australia ( same part is on the NA ), or cheaper/faster somewhere else ?
Is there something else that will fit ( unlikely but thought i'd ask )
    cheers

well, for future reference if anyone needs to know...
it's called the steering gear rear housing cap, part no 49369, and it costs about $30 from Nissan Australia.

    thanks Baz !!!
it's good to be back :-D
when my Zed was stolen it was the final straw for the motor so it's been inthe garage ever since apart from 6 MONTHS at the repairers who never finished the job
but i'm just glad i got it back at all : )
And during that time work, family life and other committments all went into overdrive and i couldnt find a moment for the car.
About a year ago i got the motor out and it's stayed in that state until now.
The spare motor is ready to go in with a 100k service kit on it ( after the spare steering rack goes in )
She's up on stands and i've been working toward getting her back on the road - maybe soon, you never know !
How are you going Baz ?
