So after many months of being busy and struggling to find time to play with the Zed, the long weekend finally gave me time to attack me turbo problem. Instead of digging up the old thread ill start a new one as i have a new couple of questions... Turns out my turbos are seized.. :lame: So much so that i was bending the tool i was jamming in there to try and make it move. (Yep had got to the point where i didnt give a shit any more and wanted to see how stuck they were) Cant believe how jammed they were, almost like they were spot welded. Anyways, on to my question. I was wondering if you guys could recommend some people who can refurbish zx turbos, as i have two that seem to spin nicely from the old engine. Id like to get them looked over before i attempt to put them in and find out im over looking something. That or somewhere i can purchase seals and bits for them that should be replaced before hand. I should mention if theyre the original turbos from manufacture, they'd probably have around the 150k to 160k Km's on them. Thanks in advance,
Buy new CHRA's from coz and be done with it. Turbo rebuilds can be a bit hit and miss and are not cheap.
I just had my new CHRAs delivered yesterday . The quotes I got for a rebuild in Sydney was around the $750 mark . CZP's centres are $420 . No mess no fuss put your housings back on and bobs your uncle :zlove:
I can recommend Fred at Turbologic. He is great, not as big and expensive as going to a big name place like garret and stuff. I usually buy rebuild kits from him for about $80 and rebuild the turbo myself and then take it back to him to get balanced. Works out pretty cheap, though ive only rebuilt my Supra Turbo, not a Zed turbo but I couldn't see it being any different. You just need the rubber O'ring for the compressor housing . Eric recently rebuilt mine so the O'ring is fine . The only thing that comes with the centres is the Oil drain gasket unfortunately .
I would too on a different car that had room to get to the turbo . But on a zed Im growing tired of pulling the engine
Yeah it was due to partially blocked oil feed line to the turbo Starved the turbo of oil and chewed the bushes out and piston ring . Hence the new CHRA's .
Just had Fred from Turbologic do a rexy turbo for $450 and is perfect. If you have trouble i have a Z32 turbo you can have for $50, has a little bearing play Brian
Easy with the right tools (big scary circlip pliers) and some mucking about getting them clocked right. Also take the time to check wastegate opening pressure when all back together.
Precision Turbochargers at Wetherill Park(western Sydney area). Stay well away from Garrett's(I know from personal experience).
