I had a bloke pull up i a 84 z31 today with a trailer on the back . Picked up a load of gravel :(. He said he bought it for a tow vehicle because the v6 had more go than his daily 4cyl :D. Condition was fairly good for it's age with just a bit of panel damage behind the front left wheel. Clean inside. I don't think he could see what i could in it
    Cheers Dave

Sadly some people have no idea, then 20 years down the track they whine they " shouldda kept that bloody japo car, be wurtha fortuuuune now love " . Typical bogan dropkicks.

Well he gets to drive his targa, but it must feel like his old 4 cylinder with that lump of trailer pulling the rear.

Ahh...., yes well different people have different takes on different vehicles.
Branding someone a "typical bogan dropkick" just because he chooses to use an ageing and desireable Jap sports coupe as a tow car is fairly harsh. That might be just one persons opinion best kept to himself.

Where is it written in stone that these cars must be loved, have much money and time lavished on them and be treated like some kind of ancient Egyptian artifact???

Prob on wiki tas. Cool kids get to write all they want on there. Surely would have to have an interpretation of the all mighty z bible.

Providing the tow point was adequate and the suspension not dragging the bum on the ground, why would driving it be any worse then the the Korean front wheel drives I see towing box trailers.

I would certainly use a z31 to tow over them.

Liking you're evaluation on the topic E.

Well... its just that "just because" some/many Z32 enthusiasts lavish time, attention and importantly truckloads of money onto their creations does not automatically make someone, like me for instance, (who does not really give a crap about what I do with my vehicles and less so what they look like), be branded a "dropkick" because he chooses to use his car in a manner which someone else happens to dislike.......

Just because a car was "intended" as a sports tourer, doe not mean it has to be used as such.

its what you get from your ride that matters, not what it is "supposed" to be designed for.

I say good onya to the dude who uses it as a tow-car, a weekend dirt-squirter (dont forget, earlier zeds were spectacularly successful on the dirt) or mothers shopping trolley that drives 3 times a week, 3 kays to the supermarket!!!!
Hoodrides, rats, Boso's and so-on. Onya!!!!!

The guy would still drive his car around without the box trailer, right?
I wonder if the towbar attachment gives his Z31 better weight distribution?

Agree with this. Lots of people just see a car as something that gets them from A to B. I know my neighbor does with every car he has ever owned. Used to drive me up the wall but now I just accept his point of view - He's happy to drive a car into the ground, never cleans it, doesn't care if something doesn't work. He sees function over form. His car is just a tool to tow his trailer.

I have a car I use as a daily to drive everywhere. Thats all it is. Just gets fluid changes.

That car I see as a tool to get me around.

    But it's not a Z is it? Zs aren't tools ;)

Function over form. Bingo. That's my daily GQ patrol. Paints shagged, but it drives well and half good on juice, sometimes. So I'm happy.

And I live in rural north Adelaide. I must be a bogan too. Not as to say I'd drive a holden, but never less. :)

Again, it's not a Z. In the Patrol's case it's a pure workhorse. They're cheap, low-tech and durable because they're made to do the job, over and over, and that's all. Very different to a lush piece of Datsun history :p

I'm not saying the guy is a douche. But comparing a Z workhorse to a Patrol workhose is like comparing a Z on a windy road to a Patrol on a windy road.

Good point actually. Apples with oranges. Mustn't have been too switched on that post. But in my own defence I think i was seeing it under the light of being purely an unsightly a - b car and not in the respects of its intended or designed usage.

Z - early era sports car
    GQ - workhorse

Do like you comment about it being a lush piece of Datsun history. Interiors were certainly that, lol.

I know, I've got one ;) Lush is the only appropriate word. That, or brown.
It's also for sale. $4.5k, anyone? It's just sitting around being sad =[
