I have just fitted a 98+ spec gearbox to my track car. Do I have to run it in? should I start with a mineral oil in it or go straight to a synthetic oil? If I run it in, what klms should be run? Thanks in anticipation Martin
I've never heard of a break in procedure for a manual transmission. Just use the gear oil appropriate for your climate preferably in synthetic.
1000 klms isnt enough. 4000-5000 for a road car. Just use the nissan oil that came with it then swap it out for MT90
I just fill my racecar transaxles with ATF. Synchros run a little notchy but who cares.... Its a race car. Geez m8, just fill it up with whatever gear oil you can find and just rape it. A race car is going to munt the synchros mighty quickly unless ur a seriouly genius cog-swapper and there are not too many of those around. When the time comes to do synchros, which it WILL, then lightly hand lap each synchro ring and off you go again!!! E
I'm pretty new on here but I gotta say tassuperkart, **** you come out with some rubbish lol! just imo of course Racecar or not yes you should run it in with the appropriate mineral oil and then switch to a high quality synthetic. A track day at WP ought to do it imo Yes more would be better, but as has been said, difficult to do for a dedicated track car. Also regarding raping your gearbox and expecting to destroy your synchros, if you can't drive a race car fast AND look after you equipment, you're just not a very good driver, IMHO of course
Yep only my opinion, and a tongue in cheek comment, no offence intended But I think given the option to, or not to, you are better off to, imo [TIS]
Only thing worth "running in" *chokes on term* is synchro rings and if they are already hand lapped then there is no reason to. Everything is just running OUT! Way it goes!!! E
Moderators, please close this thread, I have the information I was after and certainly dont need any more crap from some members who cant give a straight forward answer to what I thought was a reasonable question
Good one Martin, see you at Lakeside 2013, pity that some have to offer 'advice' when it's obvious that they do not have a clue.
