Hi there guys I've just started looking around (as I almost got my TT up and running) for someone/ somewhere to tune up my TT. and was wondering if any of you knew where the best place to start may be?? So Obviously I'm looking for someone who has dealt with Zeds before and really knows what they're doing, as I know there's not many tuning shops that work with them it doesn't have much in the way of mods but its a good base - Forged bottom end - with aftermarket Pistons, stock rods that have been shaved and "shot peened" and was ran for 7000km prior to install then the heads were off another engine and then refurbished so all in good nick up top - Turbo's are supposably highflowed stock I was told but honestly have no idea. but no smoke blowing from behind on low boost setting haven't touched the manual boost controller in there already, only turned a few clicks not sure what boost that is though :/ - stock intercoolers - 750cc injectors - blitz cat-back exhaust - pod filter intake - lightweight underdrive pulley - ECU I am unsure if it has been tuned or not, either way I doubt it is setup for my mods or any particular boost setting? firstly need to see if my ECU is already chipped or not. possibly get a electronic boost controller installed (any ideas what may go well with my setup? happy to spend a bit of $$ if it will be a noticable difference) + gauge installed and have been told Nistune may be a good option as i'm looking to just get the most out of what I have got (run a higher boost) rather then be endlessly upgrading but if there are a few small things anyone thinks would make a great difference i'm open to spending a bit more $$ e.g larger intercooler or fuel pressure reg ect alternativly was looking at a dyno tune, not sure if it's worth getting that done instead of just a tune So any guys in VIC that have had this sort of work completed I would be interested to see where you got it done and what the mechanic/ shop's work was like? Cheers Xavier
Everyone will recommend those that they trust. I have always had my 300zxs (when I had them) Tuned by AVO In Morrabin. And, I do the same now with the E-Vades (both VG30DETTs).
I'll probably need to get this done as well in the near future. Approx how much does a general dyno tune cost (with nistune)?
Good to hear Xave! I'd like to get my car tuned also, hanging out for Toshi to come back to Vic in case you or anyone else is keen.. I think the minimum is 5 cars.. Sorry for the thread jack, just putting it out there
back in the old days... a dyno tune would cost anywhere from $200-$1000, depending on time involved, cost of hiring the dyno, operator etc etc... We all used to get our ECU's chipped and tuned by Hitec Performance (Bob). He has tuned Wykkeds current race car Zed and has done my old NA in the past, along with many of the old timers here. But I dont think bob is really active on the forum anymore...
After my experience with Toshi a couple of weeks ago, I would not use anyone else. $550 for a complete tune (ex nistune install) can't be beat. Road tune can't be replicated on a dyno.
Both Sandeep and I have had our cars tuned by Trent @ Chequered Tuning. I previously had a road tune but it got a bit crazy over 16psi so I knew I needed a dyno tune. Trent is well priced and he knows his stuff. I highly recommend him and he can also supply and install the Nistune board.
$650 for the full tune (hub dyno) and he takes the car for a drive after to make sure it's all ok. He also supplies and installs the nistune for about $200. Highly recommended. People usually debate road tune vs dyno tune. Fact is you can tune every single load point (TP vs RPM) on a dyno as it can hold the car and allow you to vary load or rpm against the dyno brake, can't do that on the road and as chris said if you are tuning in 3rd/4th gear with a decently powerful car you are well into licence loss territory and it's just not safe. If it needs a tiny tweak on the street after to account for airflow then that's not a big issue. http://www.chequeredtuning.com/new/ 0414 944 146
Id rather mostly road tune 1-3rd for driveability, then tweak 4th on dyno if needed. Unless you have a race car that uses full load in high gears constantly, why tune for 4th and sacrifice the rest?
ill be heading down to trent at Chequered Tuning for a dyno tune, $650 is a good price plus they do have alot of experience with jdm's.
