I'd suspect that z31's outselling z32's would have more to do with the time they were being built and sold. Remember the z32 and similar cars pretty well died out in most markets due to their increasing price from the exchange rates and the trend change to big 4wd's.

They taxed the hell out of the Z32
Nissan probably planned for a mid engine for its future line up if it were to be a big success.

Okay this time I didnt do my research, all credit to you... but I know these companies recycle chassis among themselves... even this new Alpine concept... with its possible mid engine... could possibly use a 350z's base... same wheelbase... just saying.

    Anti 14.7 x 14.7 = 44.1

I like them rather a lot. Shame they're front wheel drive.

Wow, twice as many Z31's! Geez, I wonder where they all are now, sure don't see many on the road... Never bothered comparing sales figures but wouldn't have guessed Nissan sold double the number of Z31's.

Love Jay Leno, though I disagree with his opinion on the 300ZX/350Z. 300 is great, 370 is great, 350 looks like an Audi.

    A new 240Z would be awesome :D

    Can't believe that.
    Most are probably scrap metal.

Certainly true for the US market. 1st year of the Z31 sold more than the total for the Z32!

Check out this, down the bottom.

and how is it a piece of junk? driven it? or did you write it off because the engine is "too small"?

every review i've seen the car looks like immature sideways fun and i absolutely love that. too bad the people i see driving them are all yuppies.

i haven't driven it yet but sat in one last night. seats are great, the manual 6 speed has a really short throw and feels very direct, driving position is quite good and the rear seats are actually usable.

would love to drive one later down the track. hell once i get my new job i may buy the turbo version due 2014.

The reason why Jay dismissed the Z32 is....

that he was looking at the shapes. The shapes that resembled closest the 240Z.

The Z32 is light years apart. IMO a different beast. It might as well have been a Lambo.

Personally, never been a fan of the 240Z shape, hence the 350 & 370.
And that's not even touching upon the interior design yet.

But I do like the Z31 Shape and interior, especially the 1988 being the last of the series.
So at the end of the day, whatever floats whoever's boat...

Excellent find there Chrispy! Certainly in the US, the Z32 looks to have been almost a flop compared to the popularity of the Z31. However I did read somewhere that the very high yen & the state of the economy didn't favour sales of the Z32... Nissan was asking around $90k for the last Aussie Z32's when the average Brisbane house price was $85k. Little wonder they didn't sell too many. And a brand new 3 series BMW was half the price.

You can still get a 3 series for half the price of a Z :p but theyre cheap relative to the cost of houses.

No, because it would be crazy. You can't have a mid-engined Z. Like you can't have an AWD Z. The Z is a front engine, rear-drive sports car, end of.
If they wanted to make a mid-engine like they clearly did at once point, it would be a different car with a different name.

Nissan needs a mid engine model with GTR guts, now that would dominate.

    edit - just read this
X, R, G, and M seem to represent the performance level of the chasis. G seems to be one of the lower grade performance levels...(240ZG), X representing a standered level of performance a true sports car should have..(240sx, 300zx), M for maybe a specific tune level beyond standerd sports cars(GTS-M), and R for Racing Tune..(GTR, 200ZR)

That's not true. The GTS-M isn't "above standard sports cars". The X stands for luxury, they've said it themselves (at least for the 300ZXs). The G was only used, what, once? For a particular variant of a particular model?
R is a general term that means fast. It's not a particular "Nissan racing" thing. Hence, Honda Type Rs. Every company has made an R car before. I think Volvo used to slap Rs on their sportier boxes.

    I think the 370z body

has got alot from the 240z lines already..
If they are gonna make a new 240z, then it's headlight is essential .

    Im bored soo... photoshop time!!

If we are to follow the 240's Ferrari copying linage

I think the Scaglietti would be a good design
    [IMG]

Better yet, Nissan should go for glory and do the new flagship f70 headlights that were recently teased... where have I seen these before...

why would nissan want to release a car thats copying designs from another company....... are you a retard think about it, the z is one of there prized logos and has heaps of history behind it so what would happen to there image if they start copying others???????

Your saying the Z was never a copy in the first place?
    http://i52.tinypic.com/35n58c0.jpg

Why would they want to do more copies?... because Ferrari designs look great and should sell good.
