I'm looking into replacing my sway bar end link bushes and have been told by Ryzan that I should be looking into adjustable links to compensate for my ride height. Can anyone advise? What is the aim here in terms of extending, shortening etc?

Adjustable end links allow you to adjust the preload on the bar.

Coolio - so what effect on the sway bar preload does lowering your Zed?

If you have coilovers, and you have had your car corner balanced, there can be preload on the bar on either side as a result of the different ride heights on each side. The adjustable links allow you to bring the bar back to neutral. Preloaded sways are bad. There are many options for endlinks, just be sure which ever you choose has high-misalignment bearings to prevent binding.

So any lowered car is going to have a preloaded sway bar?

And how does one measure and correct the preload? I have a set ready to fit -was going to do it just for the sake of eliminating bushings but may as well adjust them correctly the first time...

Lowering the car won't preload the bar.
preload is only introduced when you increase or shorten one link and not the other causing the the sway bar to twist and act like a spring . Its not good as you've added preload to one side and removed it from the other.
When lowering the car the sway bar ends will start to point upwards , so adjusting both links equaly will help return it to its original position.

No, the key is the corner balancing part. This is where they adjust the coils independently to try to make your car as weight neutral as possible. Effective raising and lowering the car on each wheel to affect the perceived weight:

To test, you would remove one end of one of the current end links (one side), and see if while the car is on the ground on a flat surface, if the end link can be installed without adding pressure.

If the end link can be installed with zero pressure, no reason to change them out. If the link will not go on, you would want to install end links that be installed so that no pressure is added.

    Make sense?

so what you are saying is installing the endlinks to remove any pre load?

But if the car is even you are still preloading the bar ... just by the same amount each side

On level ground with the links removed the swaybar is free to move up and down as it pivots in its front mounts. With them connected and both wheels moving the same amount its still doing the same thing .
Only when one side moves a different amount will the bar twist causing the other side to load up.

Removing any preload to the bar will allow both sides to behave in the same way

Yes. If you can remove and install a fixed endlink with your car on flat even level ground, then you don't need adjustable endlinks. if you can't, then you have preload you need to resolve.

So do both front and rear sway bars pivot when lowered? I think I'll have to get under my car sometime soon and try and disconnect the end links, then we'll see :p

Does anyone have a link for adjustable end links for OEM TT rear sway bars?

    Found these for front only:

You can definately get the powertrix ones to suit stock OR aftermarket blade adjustable style (eg Whiteline and Stillen) so yeah no probs.

Are you in any rush? If not I might give it a week and see if anybody else needs something.
