Since installing a new engine Professionally I have been having intermittent engine refusing to fire. Spark is okay, fuel is okay????? Has anyone experienced anything similar. There is no immobiliser which is what it is like. I leave the car for hours and it is just as likely to start. When it doesn't start it doesn't even pop. There is fuel smell from the exhaust. Could it be air? It is a mystery to me.

If it has fuel, oxygen and spark it will work so....

One of these must mssing when it fails to fire, that is when you need to check the fuel and spark, when it is having the problem.

If it was air etc it would not be intermittent as such but continous.

As stated by 0ZX320 a series one PTU can cuase such intermittent issues so make sure its a series 2 PTU before doing anything.

Does it stop firing when its going sometimes or does it just fail to start sometimes?

Try shorting the ECU self test pins to check for error codes? My car had starting issues, came up with an error code, turned out to be bad PTU connectors they tend to corrode once they lose dielectric grease protection.

Good idea to order yourself a conzult adapter as well. It certainly makes troubleshooting easier and less painless at times.
