so ive looked around a bit and most people seem to think 500km is about the average k's around town and 650km on highway driving.
so my 350km around town and 500km highway is quite atrocious and i was curious as to what i could do to improve this figure?? i replaced the O2 sensors about 5 months ago but it made no noticable change. i have been told i should replace my knock sensors also.

any other suggestions? seriously tempted to get a corolla as fuel is getting rediculous and i wont be able to drive the z more than once a month :(

let me know because im heavy footed as hell so i dont last a long way either.

If your knock sensor is on the blink this will also cause bad economy. First port of call is an ECU diagnostic, anything but a code 55 is potentially causing fuel consumption to go an unfavorably direction and also costing you max power potential.

350KM is not that bad if your city driving involves a lot of stop start traffic but I would be more looking to 400-500KM if your right foot is steady.

If you used cheap o2 sensors then your fuel consumption will still be bad. You can also do regular maintenance and clean all connectors, etc and make sure your engine is healthy. Plus if you dont have a heavy foot that would help too.

Cheap O2 sensors are completely fine so long as they work.

Can you check fault codes? What Karl said was right, but a dodgy detonation sensor won't always throw a code. My last Z32 had this issue, took me ages to track it down.

A dodgy coolant temperature sensor can also ruin economy, but this will usually be noticeable when you drive. Seeing as you've done the o2's I'd be doing a det sensor bypass. it's done by placing a resistor in the female plug (loom side). Actually replacing the sensor is a hell of a task. Not sure what the exact details are off hand, google it.

I've never run a full tank to empty, but I was getting terrible fuel economy until I traced a badly mangled hose clamp pinching a short fuel line and causing a leak.
After fixing that I started to get an average of 10km per litre driving around less built up areas on the weekend.
Then I was just driving to work and had the timing belt and water pump replaced.
My last two fuel economy calculations are 7.5km per litre .???

So I am interested in this thread.

im in the same boat, only get around 500ks highway driving, ive replaced fuel filter, and in the process of changing injectors/injector connectors and coil pack connectors. hopefully this helps a bit

What modifications are to improve fuel economy?

You don't get better fuel economy by doing modifications, you get it by doing maintenance.

O2 sensors, knock sensor, service injectors, fuel filter, tune... These are all options. Use search, this is covered more than wheel fitment!

Both my Zeds got me around 350 - 400 city kms and 500km highway. One was a bog stock TT manual 2+0 the other is a 14PSI (Otherwise stock) TT 2+2.

Your figures are bang on with mine, though I drive with a bit of a heavy foot (Read: Often floor it to the speed limit) so not sure of your driving habits but if similar to mine, then your economy seems spot on to me.

The best I have managed is 17/100 or 5.8km litre. Usually sits at 20/100. Different engines driving
Whatever, never seen better. All in all if u are worried about fuel consumption get something else.

17 per 100 is ridiculous. The only modification to improve fuel economy is a dyno tune, but this isn't cheap. $1100 or so after the new ECU and the tuning.

I get 9/100 on the highway in my TT.

well what can i say. two rebuilt motors, one to stock specs and one not. both have returned as said results. the latter has spent about 6 hours on the dyno, maybe its the extra 3 i see:zlove:

so how do i do a diagnose test?

Yeah i dont think there is anything wrong with my beast then.... i think it is me because being in school and everyone constantly thinking they can beat my 300 is just not on.

Which results in only getting 350 kms a tank.
