I need to buy another 300ZX. I don't mind the idea of a grey import, but I absolutely hate the blank button place-holders you get when you don't have certain buttons. And it seems all the Japanese ones have these because they didn't come with cruise control.

    What's your solution?
I'm thinking of turning one into a switch. Getting a button out of some other Zed, using it for a set of lights or something, or even rigging up an Aus-spec rear bumper and using it for the parking lights :p Difficult?

Odd. 2 out of the 3 grey import zeds we've had, had cruise...

Anyways as above just retrofit cruise into your non cruise zed. Not that hard once you have the parts.

    Shame I don't want an auto ;)
I was under the impression many of them didn't have it.
What's involved in fitting cruise control?

Cruise on pre 93 was controlled by buttons on the steering wheel. Those without cruise had a plain wheel with no blanks

What blanks are you talking about ?

    Have I you seen a zed ?

I believe he is referring to the blank plates on the right side pod...some zeds like mine without cruise, have a blank plate over where the button for cruise is meant to be

Cruise on pre 93 was activated by a button on the right-hand instrument cluster. Have you seen a Zed?
When you don't have cruise control, that button is replaced by a blank piece of plastic. A button that can't be pressed.

Good to know some imports have cruise control. I'd much rather buy one with it than go to the trouble of retro-fitting.

If you wanted to give the button a function (on a non-cruise car), you can use it to activate extra fog lights, parking antenna, radio aerial (so it does not wear itself out going up every time the cars started) and so on.... Its simple enough to swap a cruise type switch in there and just make it do something different and add a little sticker to it. :)

The whole switchpod with cruise (so you can use the button for something) costs $40 (sometimes less).

My aerial never wore itself out, only went up when the radio was in, which was never ;)
But yeah that sounds like a fine idea. And the cluster's pretty cheap. Thanks!

if worst comes to worst, I used duck tape hear and there to cover things up on my z in the past, and hold the front spoiler to the gaurds..

that will cover up those blank buttons!

Tape made of ducks is the better stuff, don't fall for cheap imitations.

Heh, that's a plan. Eject buttons or something ;)
