    Not fixed yet.
New intake cam gears will hopefully be the cure.
should get around to it in the next few months :p

OK...I seem to have the same problem and will have to go down the same route as you, I have another used set of gears which I will try first, if it fails its BDE gears.
    cheers

Let me know how it goes.
I'm really not looking forward to the job of replacing them

i had a similar problem... mine was the shifter mount..

the little bracket that holds the shifter up wears out and breaks, it than puts your shifter at an awkward angle for your gearbox and makes a noise while in gear/light load.

i fixed it by doing this.

welding a metal bracket to the bottom of the rubber mount.

check to see if your rubber has cracked and let go on one side.

    hey guys,
    massive thread dig i know...
    had datascan hooked up today,
when free revving in neutral the vtc is not activated, however when in gear with the clutch depressed it is activated.
Is this because there is enough load on the engine when in gear with clutch in to activate vtc?
or is there some sort of sensor that tells the ecu when the gearbox is in gear?
im asking because i would have thought there would be no more load on the engine when in gear with clutch in than in neutral?
Also vtc function seems to be operating properly and both solenoids activate when switched via datascan.
So it appears my vtc rattle can be atributed only to my cam gears.
Anyone here had these replaced by a mechanic? Looking for a ballpark figure for labour. Not too keen to tackle it myself, but might have to depending on costs.
    cheers,
    John
