Hi guys, The other day i removed my K&N Air filter for a replacement. i had it sealed onto the mounting to the AFM with UV silicone, and a home made bolt on pipe. after the replacement i drove mabey...2kms? and the car started to die... gave more pedal... it died more. On the side of the road i turned it over and it would run for 2 sec then stop. So i unplugged the AFM drove home limmited to 2500rpm. Checked the sensor inside it and it has a small piece of old dried silicone that had been sucked in and cought on it. After i took it off, the car ran nice again, accept for the idle? now it surges from 500 to 1k rpm. Can the AFM sensor be cleaned to fix it or is it F'd? Thanks for any input
the afm hotwire can be cleaned, I would give it a spray with electrical contact cleaner, the type you get in an aerosol can. I've used metho in a squirt bottle also. You want to use something that'll evaporate away, not wd40 type stuff

And costs like $20+ a can from Repco lol. I couldn't justify it at the time for such a large can that I'd only need once and spray a few drops every couple of years if even that lol. MoulaZX
I guess I compare it to the cost of paying a mechanic $80-$100/hour to do it and the benefit of fuel economy and smooth reliable running.
AFMs running fine - Check. Fuel Economy - Strangely enough, better with new 750CC Injectors running rich instead of my old 370CC Stockies lol, so Check. Engine Running smooth - Check. All I'm saying is for those of us that just want to touch it up every so often, or as in the case of IANZX it would seem a 50 or 100g (about the size of a regular Lynx can) is plenty. To a Mechanic who is doing it often, I concede the standard 300g is a good choice. MoulaZX
