Adam i chose to replace all fluids as its a new year and the zed would love new juices inside it :) if you havnt replaced all the fluids then it could be worth replacing them...ive never replaced the diff or gearbox fluids so im completely flushing all the fluids and replacing everything with the best possible as in i have payed the extra for synthetic oils :)

I went to the shops today and had a look for the auto transmission fluid for the power steering fluid...is it meant to be Dexron or Dextron? I saw that they came in Dexron III...so is that the one is should be getting or is there any upgrade for it? Also any other brand other than Redline that anybody would recommend?

I shall be posting up exactly a thread which can be added to the tech section if needed of all the fluids and types and how much the zed takes :) so hopfully it might be able to help other fellow zedders in the future :)

I remember hearing that Dexron is a revision higher, meaning it supercedes the older Dexrons. I could be wrong though.

Yeah I know exactly what you mean, I will probably do the same. Could you please list where you brought all your the oil products from and how much each oil you brought cost you, as part of the tech section stuff.

    Egg ....

    I don't think it's really important.

The only reason I'm using Redline is because that's what is in the transmission.
Important in the transmission but not so important I feel in the power steering.

Buy any brand you are comfortable with, why not get the Penrite Dextron ATF? (they surely make on)

    :zlove:

Adam i definitely shall :) i got it at a special price as i get a discount :) you ciuld probably find a better price if you got it straight from Penrite but i coulent be bothered with the hassle just for a few dollars difference...my price was basically trade price which i think is 10 or 20% off :)

Egg i shall go tommorow and return the Penrite power steering fluid and get the ATF...i shall confirm if it is Dexron or not...thanks a lot.

    Egg ....

    Penrite ATF DX-VI Dexron

    Or

    ATF DX-III MULTI-VEHICLE MINERAL

    Get the mineral I reckon

Pffft, it's dexron not dextron. :D

    Thanks again Egg :)

That is what i thought :) As all i could find was Dexron...hopefully they have a small 500ml bottle of it as i dont want to buy a big 3 or so litre bottle of AT fluid...

Is the DX-III or DX-VI better?

    Egg ....

I reckon the mineral DX-III for PS

1 litre smallest bottle but that's not too bad :)

That story about castrol and shell oils not being made for Australian conditions sounds like a big fat loud of BS to me. I've always used Castrol Sports edge, which has been highly recommended and it has been good as far as i'm aware. bit pricey though at about $70 a bottle. I also use a thinner viscosity but cant remember what... but just check the recommendations book that they always have next to the oils in auto shops, or ask for it. And yeah about the Australian conditions thing, the only consideration in that, is really the ambient temperatures and maybe fuel. the temperature might have an affect on the viscosity you choose to use, but not much else as far as i'm aware. My other point on this is that the bigger oil companies obviously have allot more money to spend on research and development, therefore are more likely to produce a better oil, so long as it is aimed at the performance car.

Redline MT-90 for gearbox is apparently the ducks guts too.

As for all the fluids, amounts required and the recommended types etc... read the service manual! No excuses, theres a link to it in the tech section on this forum ;)
    Happy re-juicing!

    Expensive.

    Good stuff though.

A few people with highly strung engines use it I think but for general use I think you'd get better value from a decent mid-priced oil and regular oil changes.

I use whatever decent generic stuff seems good at the time for not too much money for day to day stuff and AMSOIL for track days.

James royalpurple is quite good but not worth on a zed that doesnt see any track days...its too expensive but if you got money lying around then feel free :) LOL

I have bought all the fluids, just need to get another bottle of coolant and hopefully sometime next week i should be able to get this all replaced and a thread happening on what type and how much of everything :)
