I am having a problem with my 89 TT Auto switching to "POWER" mode by itself. Without warning it just decides to switch modes. it seems to do if I accelerate hard shortly after engine is warmed up. If I switch to "POWER" and back again it goes off. Are there any posts about this problem on site ? can anyone help with suggestions ? Cheers Paul.

    its meant to do that.

if depress the accelerator beyond a certain point, the car assumes you want more power, and adjusts to suit, which means going into power mode......youll notice that when you back off, itstays for a few seconds, then will go back to normal.

it wont work when engine is cool, so as not to "damage the engine"

the switch can be used to manually engage the power mode if you like, so that the car is always in power mode. hold mode is used to hold gears, so you can drive it like a semi manual, but both modes dont do much for performance really.

so in short, your cars fine. ENJOY !!!

Thanks.! For info ....But it does not switch back unless I use the switch . If I move the switch to power and back to normal it changes back. Maybe i should have mentioned that in my post ...Doh !

so once "power" is engaged, it must be manually turned of via switch?

    weird lol.

do a auto diagnostic, see if it runs any codes (see tech section for how to do this)

check tps to make sure its within normal range......

Try taking your foot all the way off the accelerator. It should switch back after a few seconds of light throttle.

Maybe you have a faulty throtle position sensor or incorrectly adjusted. Should be .46 at idle from memory.

I have a feeling that the throttle position sensor has 2 parts to it. One is the idle / throttle position ( voltage ) side and the other may have something to do with auto signal ?. I remember there was a post maybe on you tube about it so do a search on you tube or in the tech section.
I'm sure someone will know more about this and post soon. Maybe see if you can lend a known good one to try or buy one . I managed to get 1 brand new of Ebay for $29.
    Cheers Dave

Thanks TWIN TERROR . I will have a look at youTUBE for that info. Its weird because after i use the The POWER / HOLD switch once . it behaves normally. Strange ..me thinks !
