    Hi Guys

Ive had this problem before and it went away so I didnt think mych of it. Basically its happened 3 times now, when its been raining fairly heavy and i go for a drive my car jumps really badly.

Like when idling the revs move from like 400 to 2000 constantly and driving its feels like the engine cuts out and like a second later it kicks back in hence the jump. It only happens when it rains, when its dry she drive sooooo smooth.

2nd Last time it happened an RACQ guy came out and he has worked on them in the past and said it might be the limp home mechanism because my oil was low. after i filled the oil it was sweet. now my oil is full, no other issues i can see and it happened again. All i can think of is water may be getting sprayed into the engine bay from the wheels because of the wet. my stone guard thing under the front of the bay is coming off so might be hitting electrics or something i have no idea. does someone know what could be happening?

    Thanks

You have a pod and water is being sucked into your intake through your AFM.

    :D
Sounds like a wet AFM .you need to shield the pod from water coming thru the slot above the number plate.
That is if it has a pod filter.

Falcon's have a limp home mechanism, so it isnt a far fetched idea, but the wet AFM is most likely the culprit. Go to your local Autobarn or Supercheap and buy a pod filter shield, it should help keep water away from the intake if it is facing the right way when installed. :)
Installing one around my pod in my 300ZX TT helped for me at least.

I've never had anything covering mine and have driven through very heavy rain without a problem. Though yea that's what it is get a 3A pod filter.

Also there is no oil level measurement on the zed other than the dip stick. The ecu has no idea how much oil is in the engine. It will try and start the car even if you have no oil in it.

Are the oil-based air-filters OK for the hot wire element in the AFM?

Not a problem at all. I have used it for years and only have to buy once a year. For a price of 30 something dollars, its a insurance and performance for the engine. Read the website!!!

I am very opposed to oiled filters on hot wire AFM motors. Don't care what the manufacturers say. If everything is perfect and they aren't over oiled they aren't too bad.

Apexi Power Intake is my pick.

    What HE said.
In addition to this, its CRUCIAL to use the correct foam filter element oil.
Unlike plain engine or gearbox oils, filter oil is somewhat sticky and very heavy and resists being drawn out of the foam and on into the inlet piping.

The foam filter is already pre-oiled from manufacturers with the right oil.
It doesnt needs to be oiled again because after a year, its worth getting a new foam for 30 something dollars.
Personally, i wont be bother washing the foam and putting oil again. It will never be the same.
Foam filters are more economical and gives more hp when used with rampod.
Better than any k&n and apexi filter.
There are 2 types UNiflow and HKS foam filter.

Use it to see the difference or stay in darkness!!! Lol

had been trying to work out what type of air filter i pulled out of my 94 auto TT, was really really dirty and couldn't make out the big writing on the foam (could read "I FILTER" the "UN" was completely blacked out with dirty oil (almost looked like dirty enginge oil), from looks of it the previous owner hadn't cleaned it ever. swapped it for a HKS megaflow with a brand new 3 layer green dry foam filter (pulled this from my 89 manual TT, the hks cage had some dodgy cotton looking filter crap, looked kinda like fish tank filter stuff....) have now cleaned it up thanks to your link, just need to find a retailer with the filter oil tomorrow and i can test out the difference between the 2 filters.

Thats only if used for couple years without care.
I always check my filter, when i service the car. And change it once a year.

Trust me uniflow is better than hks. Most of the performance cars use foam filter for better flow.
With uniflow filter : its got more surface area and more room inside to have sufficient air for engine to take in. When used with rampod, it helps the air to flow with big volume.

Yeh uniflow also use 3 or sometimes 2 foam layers and already pre-oiled.
