Long story short, too much castor on the left front wheel, tyre wore through radiator overflow bottle, sudden loss of coolant & AGAIN no rise in temp on the guage, major overheat again.
This just after a $6500 rebuild a couple of months ago. Now reading a 30 psi drop on cylinder no.2 & 20 psi drop on no.4.

As you can imagine I am over it, completely, engine is still running but for how much longer? At least I can get my hands on a TT slicktop that hasn't been running for six years at a pretty good price, looks like it's engine out time again soon, PITA!!!!

This is why you should get a proper temp gauge and/or ecutalk display, mine has saved my engine 3 or 4 times.

Have always had a proper temp guage

Hmmm, no idea then. My Ecutalk is set to beep at 90 deg and thats helped me more than once even though my temp gauge read normal.

only thing I can think is it lost a huge amount of coolant so quickly there wasn't enough in the system to give an accurate reading anymore

    Mitch Has one gear: GO

    Correct.
You actually need the coolant to be in contact with the sensor to get an accurate read.
When you lose all coolant in a short time, the remaining steam does not show the true engine temp...

Sorry to hear. Sounds like a nasty christmas gift :(.

Man that sucks to hear :( After all that time and money you just put into it too.

Give me a call sometime you're free I've got those cam gears here, completely missed your text the other day.

Your engine did not overheat from coolant loss at the recovery bottle. You have another issue that has caused the over heat.

agreed, the coolant bottle only fills up if your coolant is being dumped into it due to high pressure build up that exceeds the radiator cap limit, and if your getting a build up like that, could of been another pipe that split and emptied the coolant.

Id get a block tester kit and do a leak down test see if your getting combustion gasses being forced into the coolant system.

yup, just found the thermostat, genuine I might add with less than 10,000k's on it, is only opening at about 100 Degrees Celcius, just cant figure out why the fock two temp guages failed me yet again, so pissed & confused right now.

Is the aftermarket gauge wired up to it's own separate sensor? Or does it somehow piggyback off the factory temp sensor?

yeah got it's own sensor, must have lost a bucketload of coolant real fast somehow which caused the guage to give a faulty reading.

Oh well at least my brother in law finally gave in to selling me his old slicktop, comes with a good TT motor just in need of a 100K service (88,000klm on the clock currently) & many, many other goodies, probably wont be able to pick it up for a few weeks but will let you know when I do.

Is this the yellow one? You'll have more zeds than me now :p 4 or 5 speed?

yep the yellow one & finally will have a five speed!! Has new ceramic clutch also. Engine hasn't been run in probably six years but with a 100k service & some TLC should be ok.
