well iv been a zed owner for 4 years now iv been through alot with my zed as some of you may no and remember seeing photos... iv been in two small prangs and both times hav considered selling the beast but the love of the zed took over and i got it fixed...

then about 6+ months ago i saved up and got the engine rebuilt due to slightly to low compression plus a turbo rebuild through A2Zed thanks to eric.... and now this week i ****ed my clutch up and i it has set me on the edge alil about wat i really want..... iv put alot of money into this car and not for performance mods or anything like that and something is allways going wrong. and its never cheap to fix. i just dont no if i can keep it up... iv paid to hav it fixed as i really need a car to get to work.... but its really made me lose abit of love for it and im now really considering selling it... there are a few lil things that still need to be fixed and i dont no if its worth it anymore.... tailshaft bearing is gone and steering rack has a slight bend in it so shakes alil at 110km

if i was going to sell it wat do you guys think would be a fair price with a rebuilt engine and turbo done about 20,000km max and those problems...

What did you do to your clutch? Not that hard to change, and you can replace the tailshaft with a 1 piece unit while you're there. As for the shaking at speed, you'll probably find that one of your wheels is simply out of balance - probably lost a wheel weight or something.

If these are the only major problems, I'd say you could get them fixed for around $1000, probably less. And then you've got a good new clutch in the car and no more centre bearing to fail. And then with a rebuilt engine and turbos there isn't probably too much major that can really go wrong.

That said, they are a 20+yr old car and things can and will go wrong. That said, there are plenty of people on here who happily daily their Zeds, myself included :)

cracked the ceramic... it was a button clutch... nah its deff the steering rack eric had alook under it.... its just cost me like $1100 to get the clutch fixed..... i no thats expensive but i didnt hav time to source my own clutch and give it to them so they had to go get one for like $600.... im not mechanically minded nor do i hav the tools to do that kinda job or can i hav my car off the road for very long otherwise i would hav seen if i could source help from somewhere else. i just dont think i can keep spending 1k here and there all the time....

The tail-shaft can be swapped over to a one-piece in an hour, tops(and you will never have that problem again).
A second-hand Steering rack should be fairly easy to find(given all the Z32's that have/are being "parted out".
You will lose more money getting rid of it, than you will by fixing it IMHO and you will miss it till the day you die(you know you will).
You've fixed the "big" items, you only have a few small ones that are niggling you(plus, we don't want you to go).:zlove:

I know how you feel, and I'm sure others are in the same boat. The choice is sell it for what? 8-9K? if you're lucky. and buy what? What can you get for 8-9 K that is any more reliable? 10yr old Falcodore? 4 yr old Barina? You certainly can't get anything for that price that looks as good. Silvias, Skylines, Beemers are all going to be about the same age. And you may just be buying another bucket of repairs.
Having done what you've done you might as well stick to it and finish the last few things.

Actuallly, they won't be the last few things. There will always be more to spend your hard earned cash on. But you have to pay to ride in something this good and have sooooo many people envy you. Think about it.

I agree with Chilli ... hang in there. It's a 20 year old car. It's par for the course to have to replace worn out parts. BUT if you use quality parts then you will get to a stage where your car will last another 20 years without having to do much. And with all cars you rarely get back what you have spent when you sell it.

my story is more sad... maybe

Im in Sydney, my unfinished zed is in QLD I have little time to go up and down to get it moving forward. I look at it as a hobby, as damn expensive one. Having said that im in QLD from 30/31 Dec and 1st Jan (so if any knowledgable zedders on northside who are bored wanna drop by..) my engine is soo damn close to be going back in, just needs the accessories attached and put it in, I have 2 cupboard (like the ones they use at schools, the metal ones) full of Zed bits mostly new, my engine I think at a guess cost 8k to rebuild, bought a NA manual conversion, rebuilt a NA rear cradle, have 2k indicators, centre panel and tail lights, 3rd brake light, greedy front bar, twin z read bar, stillen side skirts and new exhaust in bits that need fabircating, got a 1 piece tailshaft, boost controller, new wiring harness hanress, the dash is out cause I needed to get old wiring harness out and while im at it will change over to a series 4/5 air con evaporator that uses R134a and has a Therman expansion unit designed for R134a, got the leather trim kit to get installed, white dials to installs, plenum to finish polishing the list goes on and on.. its a big list and depresing if i think about it the wrong way... it will get done its a matter of time most the money has been spent... just need time thats how i look at it, if i didnt I would just sell all the new parts I have and cry about what could have been.

It is now the decade where if you own a Z32, well, you own it because you're an enthusiast who needs his/her ego stroked. Obviously deep pockets is part of that passion.

Are you an enthusiast or a transient hobbyist?

    Knowing my enthusiast nature.....

One thing i did when i moved to a far side of the country and jumped into a new class of car was...."It's a zed", So i had better get organized.

If i were to buy a car and use it as pleased for A-B uses. That is that.

But, "The Zed" among other things , bites in many ways, so the key owner "needs" research and organization.

A- to -B in a Zed is ideal , but it takes "purseperation".

Some money is some, But the Zed, is "all" when it's viewed on the road.
Nothing else driving around seems, markedly the same.

Have fun in the journey and enjoy.

If the expense is to much and you still can't second the thought of selling your zed. Get organized. You can learn much from organized.
At my age of 33 and poorsome, I can relate to your youthful plight of twists and turns and then trying a Zed.
In this day and age, It is up to you.

Research unrestrained to the Zed and organize.

    Here's a somber thought,..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0yWb-fEElw

Mate stay positive, like a few of the others have said you have gotten rid of the Major issues ie: engine rebuild, gearbox. Yes it can be hard somedays when things go wrong but that is the life of an owner of a car like ours. Get yourself the single tailshaft, and pick up a second hand power steering rack and rebuild it, along with a 2nd hand Pump, then you'll have a spare to rebuild for another rainy day.

As my old grand dad used to say " Son if it's got Boobs or Wheels, you can never really afford them, but at least you get too ride them occasionally " .

I guess what it comes down to is what do you classify your zed as in your life? A fun to drive means to an end, or a hobby? If it's enjoyable transportation, then sell it if its novelty is being outweighed by the burdensome price of its maintenance. If it's a hobby then you have to really look at it as one and accept the fact that you're very likely going to invest time and money into it that you'll never see back.

Fun comes with a price. Some people get hammered every weekend and spend several hundred dollars on alcohol, some are serial movie goers and spend a fortune on that, others smoke away thousands a year. I do none of the first and third and very little of the second; instead I chose to own a sportscar, and for the average working man such a luxury must be budgeted for, much like a chemical indulgence. I keep money set aside for the zeds (I swear I'll get rid of one soon...) for when something blows up; it's not a matter of if, merely of when. Next time you have to pay a hefty bill for the car, just think to yourself, "That's my version of buying me a decadently massive cigar; my own little slice of higher living".

That or just go and stare at your zed front on for 5 minutes. That'll change your mind on selling pretty quickly.
