So just to get right to the point the local mechanics in town are putting a second hand motor into my zed, they say it will run but takes a fair bit of encouragement to get it started.

Once started it will run for they say "8-10 seconds" before cutting out. Any ideas or suggestions on what specifically to check or what may be causing this?

    Thanks.

PTU, AFM, CAS connectors, Piping leaks- if you have access to datascan/consult definately hook it up.

vacuum leak, have they missed a pipe? or got one connected wrong, once you remove vacuum leaks then start on the more obvious things as mentioned before.

Another silly question, but have they got the fuel lines on correctly?

On a more serious note what sort of arrangement do you have with the "mechanics". If it's not running right off the bat you may be handing them an open cheque book to run dry. Before you pay them much more you need to have a serious talk to them about MONEY. Zeds are reasonably complicated engines, despite their age. Many a person has come to grief by having their Zeds worked on by "mechanics" who are out of their depth

Well at its current state they have oil and fuel pressure and they also said the injectors have power aswell.
As for the vacuum leak it could very well be that, the last motor that was in the car had hoses off everywhere as this is how I bought it, they said they tried to look up a diagram for the hoses and found one but just to be safe I'd like to get a hold of one myself.

Any of you may have a link to one would be greatly appreciated.

looks more complicated than it is. but easy to get the vacuum pipes mixed up down by the carbon canister hardpipes under the passenger side throttle body pipe as it enters near the radiator.
