    Hi all, found this today for patrols and it really made me think whether this could be applied to our zed autos?

    Using different resistors to alter line pressure in the box. .

    Hi Sailor,

    The transmission mode switch changes the transmissions control map in the TCU. In our case, the only difference between Power and AT mode is that the transmission will kick back a gear at higher speed in Power mode. Hold mode will hold the transmission out of first gear in Drive.


    The resistor that we are talking about is mounted on the firewall, where the clutch master cylinder would have gone on a manual car. The 12 ohm resistor is used by the TCU to control line pressure which it does by dropping the voltage to the line pressure solenoid in the transmission. By replacing the 12 ohm with a much higher resistance, we can reduce the duty cycle of the line pressure solenoid which will increase the pressure in the transmission at certain times, like when the transmission changes gears. This improves the shift speed and feel and should help to improve the transmissions strength and reduce heat build up, which will increase its life span.

    I?ve been using a 2400 ohm resistor in place of the 12 ohm and there is a noticeable difference.

    Im curious as to if it would work, althought im not a fan of autos, however, do you know what power rating a resistor of that type is? for a solenoid i would think it would be huge, much larger than your standard 5w electronics type

    makes me think it wouldn't be that easy to find a replacement?
